Are we prepared for spring grass?

Yes all ready - however will be lucky if i have any grass roots under all this mud!!!

this will be the first spring with no shoes so definately keeping eye for shoots

Thanks.
I'll read these through the night :)

If I add magnesium / pro hoof to feed, what would be classed as a neutral carrier?
Ponies are currently fed - 1 is on high fibre nuts in a treat ball and 1 is fed formula4feet in a treat ball.

My aim is to keep their feed as simple as possible.

Anything you can mix with it that isn't highly molassed.

I use Fast Fibre, unmolassed beet and hay chaff for my old boy.

If your horse isn't sensitive to alfalfa - then a Dengie product may be OK.

You wouldn't need Formula4Feet any more or the nuts (if they are only for vits and minerals).

I can also recommend for horses who stretch their white line in spring - Red Horse's Field Paste smeared on the white line helps to keep little stones out.

Oberon - I already feed Pro Hoof to the footsore mare ( I think we're getting an improvement :) ) do I need to add extra Yea-Sacc and Magox or is that enough?

I also don't give my 2 year old New Forest X anything but Fast Fibre would it be an idea to add the Pro Hoof for her as well - our grass is quite rich in spring and I don't want her getting any lami attacks or should I just add some magox?

Thanks
K

I think the Pro Hoof contains Yea-sacc and MagOx already.

As for your 2 y/o - I would feed it...but it depends on what you think is best;)

Thanks - I think I'll start giving the 2 year old just half a scoop of the Pro Hoof then - I dont' think she's a laminitic sort, but I don't want to chance it.

I can drop the nuts.
The forumla4feet is because her feet are crumbling.

may look into fast fibre - have't heard of it before

I'm bloody looking forward to it!!! M needs some good spring grass to get a rocket up his bum, lazy sod!! The little cob has got nice and lean over the winter so can enjoy some decent grazing and A is the type that can eat as much of the stuff as he likes and doesn't go mad nor get too fat - he doesn't get hard feed in the summer, nor does cobby so cheaper too! M as per usual needs copious quantities of oats to keep his petrol tank flowing freely - spring grass - BRING IT ON!!

This is a great thread! So am I better off feeding the Pro-Hoof as an 'all in one' suppliment until new yard's grass is analysed when I move over later this month or the seperate MagOx and Yea sacc + any others. I currently feed Fast fibre 200gms (before water added) with NAF's biotin and Dengie HiFI Lite. Is there anything with less sugar/starch I could feed to put the supliments in?

I suspect if you start feeding a high mineral supplement as suggested, her hooves won't crumble any more.

If you choose Pro Hoof or META Balance - contact either seller and see if they recommend feeding Formula4Feet alongside or not. I'd worry about them cancelling each other out.
