Ok so new season is a'comin.... Just got my catalogues through and how I love perusing through every page...

Just wondered what you guys liked as in jackets or gilet?

Some of my friends hate gilets, some prefer to layer.

I am definitely a gilet kinda girl and ad-lib layers when needed but winter uniform is def an old quilted blue, nearly threadbare barbour gilet teamed with wellies. Need new one I know...

Just for fun, please add what you covet for Xmas this year! Xx

Too damn hot in a jacket, never wear a jacket when riding, I have just bought a lovely gillet from Blaze that shall be my winter staple :)

Xmas I would like a smart velvet hat for dressage (have just got into dressage and my new boy is excelling :) )

I think I may be a gilet convert this year as I get sooo hot! However when riding I prefer to have my arms covered even in hot weather in case of incident (or even just tree attack!)

I am both as really feel the cold!

I am already in long sleeved polo tops with a gilet/sweatshirt most most mornings/evenings.

In the real winter, I wear my Mountain Horse thermals, breeches and often Dublin over trousers. With sweatshirts, gilets and either my Musto combination coat or Mountain Horse coat over the lot. Then with hat/headband, scarf or snood and gloves. Thermal socks all the way.

People laugh, but I just don't care - I am too cold much less!

I have recently bought a technical wind/waterproof jacket for riding - which Ive been wearing already for hacking!

I bought my first new matching hat/scarf glove set for winter 2012 the otherday - a rather smart Horseware set.

Next on my list to purchase is thermal riding boots - I wont be able to brave out waiting until xmas for those though!

Jacket with a hoody underneath! I do like Gilets but I always feel like my arms are exposed, even with a long sleeved top/jumper underneath. I'm an odd one :D

I would like socks this Xmas. I never get any!!

Forgot to add my Xmas coveted item! It is a pair of fleece lined jodhpurs! Seen some in the sale... Not sure I can wait til Xmas :D

gilet all the way unless its throwing it down then i wear a brontie jacket or one of the long riding coats :)

i have a lovely lazy jacks one which is furry inside which i love always wear it with a hoody and then im fine for mucking out riding etc :)

i do however get very cold so i am pretty much always in longjohns, thermal leggings, breeches, jogging bottoms and them my fleece lined full chaps... and about 6 paires of socks and then wellie warmers

and my top half is usually a vest, thermal/fleece competition shirt, jumper, hoody, gilet and tons of gloves :o

Both, it depends upon the weather and what I'm doing. But if you forced me to choose one at gun point it would be a lightweight waterproof coat.

For Christmas I would like a gatehouse hickstead hat please :)

It's gilet weather at the moment and probably will be until November/Early December sort of time (depending on how cold it gets)
Then I move on to my old faithful quilted Toggi jacket.

I feel the cold quite easily, so at the moment if it's slightly too cold for just gilet I add the blouson.
I know, I know, I'm a wimp! :D

neither, too hot in either! I'm a polo shirt person. If it's properly freezing or I'm slow-hacking, I don a hoody

Both! I usually have a gilet over a hoody and under a coat in winter!

Use gilet in Spring/Autumn on its own too.

I covet all of the Rideaway catalogue it seems this year but would like another coat even though I have loads. Got 4 gilets too so don't really need anything.

Would like some denim breeches though and a new base layer set :)

im definitely a gilet person. Wear one throughout the year. Have them for the yard and the office

When its wet, i wear my old barbour over the top for the yard, and my new barbour over the top for the office.

For christmas - some long toggi socks please

gilets are weird - I get a hot body (which is the bit of me that gets hot anyway) and cold extremities - urghhh!
Unless its perishing I usually find that a long sleeve rugby top and a fleece is the most I need for riding anyway, but the jackets go on the minute I get off. Also have two pairs of the fleecey breeches for winter - definitely worth it!

I'm a gilet girl :)
I have a selection in a variety of thicknesses - one for every temperature! If it's raining though, I do have a lightweight jacket to prevent wet arms.

Me, jackets - the daughter gilets. I don't know why she needs so many though!! She must have at least 10 & is like a child in a sweet shop whenever she sees them in shops :D

when did we start calling the gilets?? what happened to good old 'bodywarmer'?
i call it a bodywarmer and prefer that in autumn rather than a jacket, but when it's cold I'll wear both!!
for christmas this year i'd like a new bodywarmer!!!:p

My local saddlery got them on sale! Hang on, will have to pm you as I think I contravene some rule if I say so on here....

OMG can you please PM me the info too!!! Would love some fleece lined johds!! :D dreading cold legs already!!

And as for the original thread, am a bodywarmer girl:p

Both. Layered in winter. Which reminds me Ive not seen my favourite body warmer all summer, I hope its not awol.

Christmas. Hmmm. Dont know yet. I did see some waterproof overtrousers on another thread that I wouldnt mind getting, bit pricey but look like theyd be ok to ride in and work in. I had some I couldnt get on with, too slippy in the saddle.

Gilet. Coat if very wet/cold, both if very cold, ski suit on below freezing days. Wear bodywarmers casually too. Much easier than finding coats that fit my ape length arms!
