Are You A Timewaster?

Nope - I've bought the first horse I saw every time lol

I never have been but i know plenty who are. I had a number of friends in the UK who would trawl adverts, call owners and even go see horses that they couldnt afford at all.

I never did quite understand it, whether it was a status thing of "oh yes, im looking for another horse" or just some weird way to kill a few hours on a saturday.

Given the number of "What do you think of this???" posts that we always seem to get from the same few people, i frequently wonder if we have some of them on here too...

Anyway, im guilty of flicking through websites sometimes but id never contact a seller unless i was serious and, as you, id never go see a horse without have the cash in hand to put down a deposit should i like it.

I have been to view horses that were complete nightmares and told the owner I'd call them...

But do you call them?

If you don't, I think that makes you a timewaster. I found it very frustrating when selling horses, to have people come, say they'll call to let you know, and never bother. If you don't want it, just say!

Im not a time waster, but have had plenty of people waste my time.
went to see so many horses that were not as described dispite the 101 questions i asked on the phone.

When we saw stan i had looked at about 15 horses/ponies that just not what they were described to be, i said hello to him over his stable door (and if im completely honest fell in love right then), then i watched him be tacked up, and led to the outdoor school. His owner did a quick walk trot and canter, then i got on. Loved him instantly, i walk trot, and cantered him asked him to leg yield. Then my sister sat on him and rode him for a bit. he was a saint and although she strenuosly denies it, she fell in love as well (all our horses have to be able to be ridden by both myself and my sister). watched him taken back to his stable and tucked in for the evening. Had a chat with the owner, showed her photos of where he would live, showed her photos of the rest of our oldies and told her she would be welcome to visit him at anytime unnanounced. She dropped the price significantly on the understanding that should the unthinkable happen and we could no longer keep him that she would be able to buy him back at the price we paid for him.
We put a deposit down then, had him vetted 2 days later (only a 2 stage) then had to wait 2 weeks before i could pick him up. his owner was quite happy to keep him for that time. Paid in cash when we picked him up.
His old owner followed us home in her car, and turned him loose with the rest of our lot (non are fighters and he just settled down to graze after a canter round and some squeeling).
She has popped up twice since (in 6 years) and weve seen her at a couple of shows.

Am currently selling my lorry and had soo many people come and see it without any intention of buying it.

I got reffered to as a timewaster.
I was looking for my 1st horse when i was 16 years old, looked at a couple then arranged to view a3rd, the owner sent her husband who knew nothing about horses, so I arranged to go back and see it again when she was there and ride it. Still quite liked it but couldnt take it out on the road as it was getting dark so arranged for my instructor to view it with me over the weekend and try hacking it. Dad advised the lady we were interested but would make a final desision based on its behaviour on the road and expert opinion on the horse, but obviously if someone else came with themoney then fair doo's. The lady rang four times the night before we went back asking if we could pay her in cash and other strange requests, needless to say mum and dad were getting a little spooked.
On returning we found it was a total nutter on the road and has someunder lying back issues which i wasnt knowledgeable anough at the timeto have picked up.
So the horses was readvertised due to timewasters, Funny how dad went with the £1500 cash in his pocket.

Not intentionally, but I do need to make sure I'm convinced the horse is right for me. I tried six before I bought mine this time, five at one yard (and tried two of them a second time). However, I would never try horses with no intention of buying them...simply dishonest and unfair to the owner and the horses.

I'd love to be a timewaster!! But I don't have time...

Seriously, I know a girl who goes round looking at horses she has no intention of buying. Really nice expensive horses too. When she's bored at the weekends normally.
I wouldn't have the front myself, and I'd probably end up buying one of them!
