As title really, for those who have them, do you get much done when they are off ?What do they do at yard/field if you take them do you get much riding done ?I find i dont get much done at all

Having the children off doesn't change my routine.
My horse is on part livery, so I go up in an evening when my OH is home to look after the kids.

I try to avoid taking them to the yard if I can :).

I tend to get more done without having the school run to do, especially as I have one in nursery who starts at 12.15pm meaning lunch is at eleven! My girls are pony mad which is great as they are happy to do anything, but my son is not so impressed as he gets older which may make it harder. Typically he is the natural rider too!

I rent a field and sometimes my daughter whose 12 will come with me and ride on my ned on lead rein. Other than that never get time as hubby works shifts.

My 10 yr old daughter is home educated so she is with me - or her dad - all the time.

She helps with the mucking out. Rides in the morning as we find it makes them easier to catch in the evening if they are not being brought in to work. (Mind you they are her ponies - not mine!) Makes up feeds, stuffs haynets of whatever else needs doing until I'm done. No-one at the yard has ever had a problem with her being there. And she is still back at her desk and working by about 9.30.

Before anyone starts she does not have special educational needs. She is very bright, but she is not "weird". (well - no more than any other 10 yr old anyway!) She is amply socialsed both with local home ed groups and the normal 10 yr old stuff of Pony Club, Stagecoach, Choir etc. And we have been to school - she was in school until year 5.

Home Ed isn't for everyone; but it is a completely viable - and legal! - alternative for those who want it. And there is no problem with getting the horses done!
