Most riding clubs organise monthly training clinics, a few shows and a few socials a year. They are really good for young horses and nervous riders but even if you're competent, you'll still get something out if being a member. You'll also soon make friends with the other members. I'd thoroughly recommend joining a riding club.

I've just joined my local riding club, mainly because it gets me priority entries and money off entries to their shows! They organise about 6 a year, plus clinics. Don't know if they have any social events though.

If your riding club is an affiliated one it can to send teams/individuals to area competitions and from there to national competitions. The standard at these national competitions is quite high.

I was never involved in Pony Club, but find our local riding club to be great.

As it is affiliated you get all sorts of benifits http://www.bhs.org.uk/Content/Brc-Home.asp?id=1658&pg=Discounts as well as money off class entries for the year and training clinics at a subsadised price.

It is also a good chance to compete at larger shows you may not get too otherwise. If you get on the teams and qualify for any championships, they are usually really well organised and great fun.

Socially, ours has a Ball next week (but it is very expensive- so wont be going :-( ) They also organise long distance rides which are also very social.

There is also no set rule that says we meet once a week, it is very relaxed and supportive... so well reccomendd! x

I went to a Riding Club show last month - my first ever. I wasn't a member but I will be joining it next year as it seemed quite friendly and the shows look like fun. I'm not sure they have any social events but they have a show every month from late spring to autumn. I think it is definitely worth joining a RC for the sake of probably £20 - £30.

We have quite a few riding clubs near us and I joined the one that most suited me for what i want to do. A few of the clubs are very competitive and I may join one of them one day (!) but as my horse was very green when I got him and I went for one which was more for adults and did bits of everything. they do Have a Go days where you can do dressage at all levels and Have a Go jumping from 2ft upwards so there's something for everyone. They organise lots of clinics and it's more about fun than competition. It has been perfect and has given me the confidence to progress onto other things though will stay a member because it is fun but will be varying it with other events next year as want to branch out a little. Hope this helps and good luck with your club.

Our riding club is great fun. We have a large number of events going on. A lot of the stuff is social, with group rides, picnic rides, fancy dress rides and three shows a year. We recently had a fancy dress monster hunt for halloween (well the day after). We are having a group ride next weekend, a meeting for the annual show the week after that. We have a christmas meal in a local pub, a fancy dress pub ride (where we collect for charity) for christmas and a horse mans carol service. We have also this year had a table top sale, a talk by a local farrier, a talk by a homeopath, an equine dentist. We had points equitation show, points jumping shows and gymkhana points shows over the summer, as well as our big annual show, a childrens show and a fun show. We meet one evening a month (again in a pub, are you getting the theme

) We are a very sociable bunch, with most of the gymkhana entrants being over 40!. I would like to think that I have made some firm friends through ours, and have even been on a riding holiday with one other member, we are going again this year with another member joining us.
