Are you 'colourist'? Is there a certain colour you seem drawn to or vice versa? I am always drawn to greys or occasionally the odd chestnut mare! If I see a bay/coloured for sale it never quite fills me with the same excitement as a grey. Very shallow I know and obviously it wouldn't stop me from buying a non grey!
 
I love a coloured, that’s what I’m drawn too, piebald or skewbald. However if the horse was right for me I wouldn’t rule out any colour.
 
Looks like coloureds are a bit/love hate! I don't mind them if they're mainly dark, not such a fan of the ones that are mostly white though! I'd love to get a dun one day

I'm not a fan of coloureds to be honest, splodges can make them look a funny shape on occasion. I'm not a fan of any of the "loud" colours, too flashy. I do have a soft spot for strawberry roans though...

Then again its always quality over substance for me, just purely on a drawn to the advert perspections werid colours just dont do it for me
 
I love bays, but wouldn't rule a horse out just because of the colour. I'm not overly keen on greys purely because of the keeping them clean, but I did used to ride one for her owner and I adored her!
 
I really love all horses, but blacks always draw me in quite a bit. Though, if the horse wasn't right for me i would never buy it simply because it's black, and if it was perfect for me, i wouldn't ever rule it out because of the colour. echo above though, i love greys aswell, though they're SUCH a nuisance to keep clean!!
 
My auntie told me that when she was a kid, a coloured was what people bought if they couldn't really afford a horse, in other words coloured horses were cheaper. Today, the opposite is true and this is one of the reasons why I would not buy one, I will not pay more money for a horse simply because of its colour!

I have never known a bad roan.
Although I love greys, they have been bad luck for me.
I would avoid anything with a lot of pink skin i.e. cremello.
My current horse is liver chestnut, which I love!
 
the saying ' a good horse is never a bad colour' springs to mind here.
I have had mostly chestnuts,but have also had coloureds,bays,dun and currently a roan. I like greys when they are not white grey and I am not keen on appaloosa but not due to the colour,more due to the amount of pink skin they have and most I have ever known have had real attitude.

i must agree some coloured do look wierd esp if they hav a too white face but my 2 ae quite nicely marked ( dnt mean to sound big headed) x
 
I'm drawn to coloureds and chestnuts.
put off by dun and roan. Dont know why, I don't dislike them, they're just not colours I would go for

I like anything a bit different to be honest... I like unusual colouring.

I love the look of greys but after having a grey Connemara for three years (my last pony) I wouldn't have another. Keeping her clean drove me mad. At least with Freddie I get some satisfaction from making his black bits shine, and his mane and tail are mostly black.
 
I dislike chestnuts, and wouldn't buy one even if it were perfect in every other way.

I prefer bays and blacks, have a soft spot for duns, can take or leave greys and coloureds.

Absolutely, yes.

If it does the job then I don't really care what colour it is, but I wouldn't go to see a solid colour if I had a choice, I already have 2 bays, no choice with them as I wanted the bloodlines and purebreds don't come in the colours I'd really like.

I like greys, some appaloosas, a good palomino, buckskin and paints, but I prefer overos to tobianos anyday. Fussy! Fortunately, all the above are pretty common here, except for greys, QH's don't come in grey so often.
 
Colour doesn't come into it with me anymore. When I bought my piebald cob it did. They were still few and far between then.
The only colour I'm not so keen on is Apaloosa but it wouldn't put me off unless I had to choose between two otherwise identical horses.
 
Another yes here - I love dark coloured horses... black or black/brown or dark bay. I think I have been influenced by all those films/books from my childhood: "Black Beauty", "The Black Stallion", "Fury"... just to name a few... and they were all black or at the very least dark!!

My horse is black/brown according to her passport with a white star, and I think that's why I fell for her despite her naughty temperament.

Never seemed to like chestnuts - don't know why. Don't like coloured ones too much either. Used to like white horses if it wasn't for the amount of time spent grooming them to get them white!
 
Love greys, especially dapple (mine was sooo easy to keep clean) also like black,palomino and dun.

very much dislike skewbalds and spotties, piebald can be OK, and roan not my first choice, but OK.

I find this poll really interesting, as I have actually seen wanted ads where people specify the horse's colour!

God, it's hard enough to find a horse that does everything you want it to, and fits with you, without worrying about colour too.

I have a coloured, and I adore him - but I don't like coloureds, never have. But when I sat on him, I had to have him! Luckily he seems to keep his white bits clean

Specified an appy because that was what my daughter wanted. In the space of 24 hours I had 14 replies, most were not what I wanted, but I was surprised at how many were out there. The horse I eventually bought wasn't even really for sale.

On Horsetopia here (a bit like Horsemart I should think) you can specify colour, age, sex, price, breed, area etc, etc. Very useful.

When I was looking for my first horse we never went to a horse that was grey. This was because of the melonoma thing and my Mum had had a bad experience with these in the past. Ironically enough after a year of looking and 3 failed vettings, including a Chestnut with sarcoids, we ended up with Murphy, a grey. He was dark dapple grey with a black mand and tail then but is fleabitten white grey now and yes has melanomas but this did not stop his career. I now have a dark bay and getting him ready for shows is so much easier. Murphy required washing 3 + times a week during the season and was a nightmare to keep clean.
