Are You From a Horsey Family?

My mum is very horsey and we still go riding together now.
She still comes to shows with me like a Pony Club mum lol (though she has never, ever been pushy!)

Not at all... I was born with a freak horsey gene and obsessed from an early age; I can't think of a single person in my large extended family who is at all interested!

Ditto me too!!

I am the only one remotely interested, and the only remotely competitive person in my family. My mother has no interest though she did learn to ride well enough to take me pony trekking after my dad died. However she is not particularly useful with horses - will come and watch if it suits her (so about 3 times in my life) and has been known to stroke my horse on the nose.

God knows where I got the freaky horse gene from - I used to take ice-skating lessons but the ice rink closed so I got offered a riding lesson instead - one lesson and I was hooked for life. I always tell non-horsey friends who take their kids for riding lessons that they are unleashing a monster!

My Mother is/was horsey. When she was a teenager, she worked for Bob Champion's brother, Bridger, working with the Pointers and NH horses. She also worked for a chap called Billy Fowkes, who won the Foxhunter at Aintree on her favourite horse

Sister rode before she left home and took it up again about 3 years ago, after almost 20 years out of the saddle. Daddy wasn't horsey at all, but his Uncle and Cousin, between them either rode and/or trained 3 Grand National winners - 1911 with Glenside, 1915 Aly Sloper and 1920 Troytown. I believe, though am not sure, that I am related to Claire Baldwin, as her mother is daughter of trainer Ivor Anthony, who I think was son of Jack Anthony - Jockey of above named horses.

Kind of horsey family, my dads dad has always been into horse racing. Then my uncle owns 4 racehorses and has % parts of others. Allthough me and my sister were the first people who actually learnt to ride my dad followed aged 40.

My aunt used to ride, i said i wanted to ride and she took me to a RS and i was obbessed from then on! and i got my older sister into it as well. however my mum is fully supportive of me and my horses!

my cousins used to ride which got me into horses! parents don't have a clue although mum seems to know more than she lets on lol. dad knows how to pull the trailor and muck out (i taught him to muck out lol best way

!). he also likes to think he knows all about horses but he really doesn't (well he tries hehe).

although they have never been interested in horse the try and help me sooo much. they only have become interested since i got my first pony about 5 years ago! i was lucky and my friends mum used to help me out loads!!!!

Nope not at all, I got into them because I had a friend who kept horses at her house and I always wanted to go and see them and have a go. Had my first lesson for my 8th birthday and it went on from there. The rest of my family can ride but don't. Mum used to ride alot but then lost her nerve and now won't ride. Since I've passed my driving test (a year ago yesterday I think shes seen my pony about three times, before that she used to come and help me every evening.

No-one is horsey in my family but I always wanted a pony - every Xmas or birthday I would look to see if there was a pony in the garden and my rocking horse was my favourite toy

I had to wait until I was in my thirties for my dream to come true and it's been worth the wait

My family is immersed in horses - I've been to Badminton every year of my life!

I have to say I don't know where I would be without them. My Gran ran a v v big arabian stud for many years, and even though she is 80 next year she still comes to the majority of my events! We make sure there is lots of coffee in the horsebox and station her in there. She has an incredible eye for the confirmation of a horse, and movement/lameness etc. She is also an advocate of classical training. I trust her judgement 100%, really admire her and would never consider buying a horse unless she's seen it beforehand.

My dad gives the finincial support !!!! (hence why he's broke!) and my mum seems to have dedicated her life to me. Although she doesn't 'instruct' me, shes v knowledgable and I value her opinion a lot, eg in the warm up for an event. She also drives the lorry and generally spends her life worrying about the next weekend!

Sorry for the long speech, I'm just very proud of my family and don't know where I would be without them. (However, I would also like to stress that I do the horses on my own ALWAYS, but I know I can always turn to them for moral support and advice!)

My nan loves watching the racing on telly, and wishes she rode when she was younger, my cousin hunts/events (when she has a horse to ride) and my aunt rides. My mum and mum's boyfriend are as far away from horsey as it is possible to be!

none of my family are remotely horsey.we got into it when via my sisters primary school teacher. mother used to help muck out etc when we were kids but my dad claims that he doesnt like horses but can often be found sneaking them polos etc!

nope, none of my family are horsey - only started riding when horsey neighbour moved in next door and taught me to ride

however, it seems it is in my blood!

dads side:
my uncle was one of the top horse dealers in ireland, and is amazing at finding hidden talent in an otherwise ordinary horse - he was a legend! lol my cousin rides, my other uncle in england is also very horsey, and although he dosent ride himself his entire family does!
my mums side
uncle is also a top horse dealer and used to jump for ireland in world cups, and some of cousins on mums side ride!

just wish i had inherited some of that talent!!

Nope, not remotely horsey. Dad was a farmer and Mum was originally from North London, but did agricultural studies. Myself and my 2 older sister's converted the parents, my Mum doesen't ride but now does everything else and loves it, and my Dad doesen't do anythign with them but likes to see them tied up outside the house.

both sets of grandparents either worked with horses or owned them.i suppose it must be in the blood as i have been brought up with them as well.
did try to do with out a horse for a while but i could not resist any longer and had to buy a new one.
their is only my dad who is slightly interested in them now mam dislikes them.

I'm from a non-horsey family and went treking with a school friend's family when I was five and was hooked. I went to riding schools and wore my poor parents down til they bought me a pony at twelve. My little sister copied me and by the time we were in our teens we had 4 horses! My mum has even had a few lessons and she now feeds and checks our 2 oldies that live out. My poor dad has never got any keener though cos he's the one who pays all the vet bills.

We are not a horsey family at all. But my youngest daughter's first word was horse and the two of them have been obsessed ever since.

So despite being completely non horsey myself I have ended up with two horses and a pony and a shogun and trailer to get them about and spend most of my weekends in fields or arena car parks.

Where did I go wrong - I am really meant to be spending my time on the sofa watching crap tv.

Not at all but my mother used to spend her summers in the Dublin mountains where she was allowed ride the farm pony bareback around the fields. She always talked about it as if it was the best memory from her childhood and so she let me have riding lessons as soon as I caught the bug. Didn't get own pony until my 40s (but he was worth the wait)!

My Grandad rode. He was a farrier but my Dad went off horses after he was badly kicked by a client's horse and he got rid of the pony which my Grandad got for me. How mean is that? I wasn't allowed another one of my own and had to loan or ride my friends' ponies.

Interesting that the majority seem to have non horsey families.
My irish grandfather was a NH trainer, and my mother worked for him. My dad had to become horsey when they got married and learnt to ride, shoe and ended up Chef D'Equipe for the Zambian SJ team and Chairman of the Zambian Horse Society. My parents also used to breed a few warmbloods when we lived in Zambia. Think I am the most obsessed and passionate of all my family though.

LMAO!! Only you would be able to make such a contradictory statement!!

not really, dad's sister used to ride a little and my sister used to ride - only person in my family that is really horsey now is my cousin who is doing a management course at Sparscholt (or however you spell it) the equestrian college.

my mum is very supportive of my riding, she knows how to muck out & tack up but hates riding and is not keen on horses, although she does like to spoil my loan horses :P
