We have been offered really nice grazing, with a super brick barn shelter. Even ,flat ground, really lovely pasture on good draining soil.
Both mine are full TB's...and have both worked really hard at BE / RC all season. One has finished, one had 2 more runs...
Both have really AWFUL feet!!!
So ..shall I turn them away for a couple of months, and if so, shall I take all shoes off, or just hinds???
Any thoughts, or experience, greatly received. :)
 
Yes I would turn them away.
My TBs feet have all got better with having no shoes on so unless their feet are really terrible I would be tempted to take all off. Ask your blacksmith though - he will know their feet best.
 
My TB had a years break last year with no shoes, she had bad feet and they really improved with the time off.

My WB boy is in his third week off of 4 after his first seasons eventing, but I've left his shoes on. And I'm BORED...! Want to ride! Being strict with his time off though. He's never been groomed so much, and the yard is immaculate :)
 
mines been turned out a week now and looks like an over grown shetland pony all ready :rolleyes: he still has his shoes on as i can't make my mind up if ill do a few days cubbing then give him december off when the weather is horrible ;)

it is really stoney around me and even though he is not a TB he is a big poof :D
and i have decided this year ill still hack him once every 10 days or so because he can be really naughty coming back into work and im not walking home int he spring when he buggers off home without me :D
 
I would leave the fronts on unless you are going to turn them away for at least 3 months. 2 months isn't long enough to allow the feet to harden IMO.
 
I'd definately turn them away and take off all their shoes. It'll do their hooves good. My eventer will be off on his annual hols (basically just turned away and not worked) in about a months time until January / early Feb. I take all his shoes off which he loves.
