all you horrid little button pushers have at last managed your hate campaign against JM7... You have just lost us all a knowlegeable horsewoman I hope you are very proud

[/ QUOTE ]

I saw no hate campaign. I dont think these horrid little button pushers have lost Horse and Hound a knowledgeable horsewoman. JM07 broke the rules and got herself banned. There are lots of other knowledgeable horse people on Horse and Hound.

You said it!

If button pushers hadn't notified Admin, who did? I don't believe Admin could be bothered to trawl through the drivel that is SFA.

I think it's a crying shame she has gone from here. I'm not her best friend, either but I do see where she is coming from and she NEVER changes her opinion on things to suit popular demand. No frills but solid gold to a diamond heart.

I've got the hobnobs *checks packet*. Yep still got a couple left

Can someone tell me if the ban is a permanent one or temporary?

it seems alot of really good people have gone off the forum lately, ones that i used to read all the time before I started posting, like JM07 and Gone to France and Lucretia.
I think that maybe it isnt so much that any of them were particularly rude or unpleasant or broke the terms but more like small minded people with nothing better to do, complaining to the people in charge because they didnt get their own way in a debate.
and someone above suggested that instead of asking for advice on here people go and ask a professional. well that comment in itself seems rather rude and lacking respect to me as i think it has been demonstrated on many occasions plenty of professional people are members here (or were) or don't people like FMM, FRESHMAN, Missdesummer and ellejs count as professionals? I think from what i have seen and heard of JM she is a very professional person, who has been provoked on several occasions beyond a joke.
No wonder certain facebook groups are getting big. At least people can speak their minds there.

QR:

I think some people are missing the point here. This is not necessarily about JM07 personally, but about the whole changing climate of the forum.

A few years back it was very rare indeed on here for anyone to get banned - I can remember only one permanent ban and that was for very persistent and totally OTT breaking of the T&Cs and came after very, many warnings over a period of yeas. Totally on a different scale from what has happened with Lucretia and JM07.

The great thing about this forum is that it has a great mix of different characters including some rather robust ones, just as you would get in real life. Some people you like, some you can't stand and just have to tolerate! Up to recently it has been very lightly moderated and therefore it has a very different and more realistic atmosphere to many of the more 'fluffy' forums.

However, recently there seems to have either been a change in moderating policy and permanent bans seem to be slapped out for much lesser offences than before. Long term if this continues it will really change the character and breadth of the forum. This will happen even more quickly if any group of individuals take a dislike to a certain user and make a concerted effort to all report any minor violations of the T&Cs in an attempt to get the user banned.

I really admire the maturity of LittleSoph and Winkifiedwintershere who admit that they have reason to dislike JM07 but still feel that a ban was not justified. Surely that is the approach we should all be taking on the forum, rather than seeking to get other users banned. We have to tolerate all sorts of people in real life - blunt ones, honest ones and yes, sometimes rude ones too. But we have to learn to deal with it and get on - and at least on the forum we have the User Ignore feature if the worst comes to the worst!

There are people on here who say there are professionals. I've seen some good advice on here and I have no doubt that many people are being honest, but there is no way to know. If I was facing a serious problem, I would rather know who is advising me, personally. I have also seen some advice on here that has made me cringe, quite frankly.

As for disrespectful - this is an INTERNET FORUM! Good manners cost nothing and I hope that I always have them. But the whole idea is that everyone posts anonymously and everyone is equal. Respect is therefore earned, not given on the basis of someone's post count or time online. If a professional wishes receive professional respect then they should not post anonymously.

Some of the posts I see asking for advice here - on rearers for example - really concern me. This is a serious issue and professional advice SHOULD be sought, if for no other reason than that a professional on the ground will be able to actually see for themselves what is going on and advise based on that, not based on the situation as filtered through the perception of the OP.

I for one appreciate JM07's experience and advice (although not so much her 'way' with words sometimes) and do hope her ban isn't a permanent one, BUT I'm sorry, there are plenty of people on here just as capable. The forum will not crumble in her absence just as it hasn't when all the other 'regulars/experts left. People are joining this forum all the time. No one is indispensible.
Anyway she has another username and I'm sure will have no trouble rejoining if she wants.

Just read this whole saga and have crunch creams if they're any good...

Seriously though, this thread should act as a wake up call to people to perhaps STEP AWAY FROM THE COMPUTER AND INTO THE REAL WORLD every now and again?

I appreciate that some of you have met each other, however most of the people who read and use this forum haven't. On Internet forums you're only ever getting to know people's alter-egos, and them yours. You are never exactly yourself online no matter how hard you try; people will always perceive you differently. So falling out over a few comments (which, let's face it, would probably never even have been made face-to-face) seems like wasted energy really. If you unknowingly met outside of this forum you'd probably get along fine, agree to disagree on some points and form a friendship on the basis that you had a common interest. Either that, or you'd form a dislike to each other, and avoid contact at all costs.

The forum can be great for advice, ideas, contacts, diary dates etc, and it's always interesting to hear other people's views on things. But once you honestly believe your social life is here, you need to click that cross in the top right hand corner... and get a real life.

'The forum can be great for advice, ideas, contacts, diary dates etc,'

Sadly there will be nobody here who can give you this soon....

Of course there will spaniel. Some people manage to do all of these things without being rude and offensive. Usually the people who don't spend their entire lives here and get involved in all of the pointless arguing
smile.gif
and who spend more time with their horses, practising what they preach.

poppymoo - thanks, I think?

Oh yes

Personally I try to keep out of all this.....personally I dont think JM did say anything out of order on that particular thread.....she tried to clarify what she had put...and this is the problem with forums and e-mails and texting...if it isnt face to face or spoken aloud its hard to get accross your point sometimes without being misunderstood.

The other side of the coin....its ok having a reputation for 'saying it like it is' ....no-one likes waffle and bullshit...and 'fluffiness'..but thats no excuse for general rudeness.

I didn't like her and agree with all the above people saying she was downright rude.

But i do think people need to step away from the computer screen!!! Chill out guys.

xx

Even if that were true, which it isn't, it's a sad day when the only place one can go for sound advice is an internet forum where the person who's giving it is some faceless persona who for all anyone knows is just very adept at googling.

If JM is held in such high regard by you, as a friend or as an advisor I'm sure you'll keep in touch off the forum so what's the problem

I am sorry - but I just have to post (have been reading this forum for years but never joined.

I have always looked in on H&H for all the good advice and also to see that everyone seems to have much the same problems as everyone else.

I have to say JM's posts always made me smile. I always thought I would probably like her in real life - when I read the posts this is all about I found them hilarious!

Cheered me up no end keeping up! Sorry!

BTW - do those hobnobs have chocolate on?

Hilarious, at the time of posting, there were 252 people using the forum. so very much doubt it Spaniel.

I didn't read the offending SFA thread and really can't be arsed going to find it.
I just cannot believe that there is a 9 page thread about this. I wouldn't have thought that one person could make or break a forum. If those people who are so upset by her ban are friends with her, then surely they can can call or text her.

I have read posts made by JM and mostly avoid getting involved, because if you dare to disagree you are just made to feel stupid and then all her mates join in. I don't know if she knows tons more than the rest of us but I am sure there are others here that have enough experience to keep the questions answered and failing that, perhaps there are people in RL who can help.

Regardless how knowledgable someone is, there is no excuse for rudeness and nastiness.

I dont get all this blame targetting - Admin do read the forum and can see for themselves what is happening and decide what to do about it. It doesnt mean anyone has particullarly reported a person - I for one wouldnt even know how to on here!!

I have to agree with some of the posts of here that although she may well be a very knowledgable and experienced horse person it doesnt excuse rudeness or targetting people on a personal level. When I joined a few months back she was picking up on all my posts which really were harmless and I Pm'ed her to ask what the problem was as I dont even know the lady!

This is a strange forum as its so big and not many people know each other on here in real life - it does not however excuse bullying tactics on someones 'forum' persona. Politeness cost nothing and if you dont like something then ignore it and move on. At the end of the day it is just a forum which people can get good advice or info from but in the scale of things means nothing.

I think Spaniel's point was that if knowledgeable people are being banned for trivial reasons then the forum will soon cease to exist, not that JM is the only peson able to give the above.

I also think that HHO has lost a valuable member in JM.

ahh so only clueless people should be banned for trivial reasons
tongue.gif

Seriously though, i shouldn't think that even if a few more 'knowledgeable' people went, I doubt if that would constitute a brain drain. That is my point really, that with a forum of this magnitude, there will always be lot's of knowledgeble people left here, and hopefully it will be some with manners.

Well spoken TGM. If people cann't give their honest opinions on the forum. its just another Nanny state only horse and hound state. Nothing in life is always sweetness and light. And if I cann't give an honest opinion to a question asked on the forum WHY HAVE A FORUM.

QR - just thought I'd pop in and add my pennies worth.

How did this reach 9 pages? Why do people care? Maybe there is a need to 'step away from the computer'????
