My boy and my mare are out 24/7, naked. I can't help feel they need to be in during the day away from the sun. Only thing is they hate being in! Flies are not too bad and they have their masks in anyevent.

What are all you guys doing?

If they have shade then I wouldn't worry. :) Mine are always out 24/7 all year round but they do have access to stables as shelter when they choose. As long as yours have shade then I think they will be fine. :)

Mine is out with a flymask and tonnes of fly repellant.
He is in a field with pretty much no shelter as all of the horses at my yard are.....none of them seem to bothered if im honest.
None of them wait by the gate to come in, and they are all keen to go back out after a ride.
It is hot....but to be honest....the couple of horses that are in at the mo are still being bothered by flies and the stables are so hot and stuffy, i think the ones that are out are happier.

There's no shade for about 3 hours of the day - peak.

Mine are out 24/7 and dont seem too bothered, one is in a field with very little shelter and she doesnt suffer at all. I just make sure they have access to plenty of water as they drink a lot more...

Ours have lots of natural shelter so are out 24/7 with fly repellent smeared all over them and fly masks on during the day. They may have all this shelter with lots of lovely cool shade but are normally to be found in the middle of the field sweating their cobs off...

The two here are coming and going as they please, they were found standing in the cool stables in the heat of the day yesterday for a good few hours, there is little natural shade though.
My boy is out during the day and I worry about him every year in the heat, again no natural shade but its the yard rule to be in at night and out during the day. I've been getting him in 3 ish as he has just had enough and wants to be out of the heat and flies by then.

Yep, mine are staying out 24/7 with a lot of fly repellant. Neither really suit being in and as one side of their field is very open fenland there's generally a nice breeze on them.

my lot are turned out by 7am and are wanting to come home by 11.30. When it reaches 30 plus they are out by 6am and in by 10am. Not one of mine would thank you for leaving them out all day and I cant say I blame them. To be stood out in 30 plus and being eaten alive by flies, horseflies and co, cant be much fun. Usually when we reach 30 degrees, there isnt much grass left so not much point in leaving them out anyway!.

Mine is out, although with access to a stable and she will stand in, but saying that the stable is still hot and at least outside there is a bit of air circulating. I've got a swallows' nest in the stable and the poor things are practically roasting and all hanging out the side of the nest :(

Mine is, he's very lucky because there is lots of lovely natural shelter, big hedges and trees, at one end of his paddock which is always shady and damp underneath. He spends the hottest part of the day dozing under his favourite tree, Im pretty sure he sleeps under it too from the scuff marks in the dust. I must admit. I would bring him in if there was no shade, I know Im putting human emotions on this but personally, I hate the sun and being stood out in it is my worst nightmare, makes me feel very ill, very quickly so I am a bit paranoid about it tbh.

Mine come in as there is no shade in the field but is also sheltered from any breeze/wind due to the hills. So there is nowhere to hide.
I just think that i wouldn't like to sit out in the sun all day without the option of going indoors or under a parasol !!!
Mine also get a sunburn on noses.
The grass in our field is really poor and starting to turn yellow at the moment...the North West might be getting a hosepipe ban!!! So coming in gives them a munch on a haynet.

No, mine are in - my grey in particular gets very grumpy and irritable when shes too hot, so shes in. Shes on box rest atm anyway, but when shes allowed back out into her pen, it will be at night only.

Bay one isn't really that bothered, but she comes in during the day as shes a piglet.

Mine are out and don't seem to be too bothered. I do tend to leave them without rugs for as long as possible and I think that helps their bodies learn to regulate their temperature better. Their stables would be hotter than outside at the moment!

Mine are in overnight due to Oldies problems, but im currently turning out between 5:30 & 6am atm. Then bring them in around 12ish, then i try to T/O again later in the afternoon for a few hours.
My Old boy absolutely hates the heat he always has, so he will stand begging to come in.

I'm on grass livery so mine's out 24/7. There isn't alot of natural shade for them so she's out in her derby house uv fly rug and mask. She seems ok although I do worry about her.

mine are out most of the time. They are in a field with no shelter but it is on the side of a hill with a constant cool breeze so they are quite happy. No flies at all either because of breeze.

Mines out naked 24/7 (mask in day, fly spray on and cream on nose) and he has no shelter at all. There is a breeze going thru. Brought him in for a couple of hours the other day. then rode him and he was mega grumpy so gave up with that idea! Unless it gets super hot and no breeze he's staying out. His field mates come in in the day but in an adjoining field my friend has had her horse out 24/7 for the past 2 months and her horse is fine. Even when she brings in to ride she tacks up outside. Sometimes I wonder if intermittently bringing them in and out actually makes it worse and by just doing one or the other they acclimatise to being out in it.

ETA - I would prefer there to be shelter in his field, if there was I wouldn't worry about leaving out 24/7 but as Im on a livery yard and YO has no intention of providing any sort of shelter, I have no choice.

mine are out but im going to bring them in later for a few hours away from the flies. grace doesnt care about the flies but prince hates them big time!! he comes up in huge lumps but i think he gets to hot in his fly rug when its this warm!

Mine come in during the day because we have no shelter in our fields. The horse flys are really bad in our area too.
Dandy is pink too so his nose sunburns and cracks really easily :( poor pony looks so sore, and no matter how matter how much suncream I put on it he still manages to burn =/

Get him a sun mask - it's not just a shame, it's very dangerous to let him burn.

Mine are out early and late and in when it's the hottest. This weather is nuts.

Danielle have you tried sudocream instead of sun cream? Iused sun cream up until a couple of weeks ago on Saffy's pink nose and she was still getting burnt with sun block. Started using sudocream and have had no problems at all and she is out 24/7. OH has been working away for a week and is amazed at how good her nose looks.

all 3 of mine our out in the day.besides it seems quite warm in their stables anyway and the flies would still come and visit if they poop!

They were out this am but brought them in this afternoon (DWB was literally begging at the gate to come in) bathed them all (cooling more than cleaning) and popped them in their stables... ALl looked happy and more content than they did in the field.

Why on earth would you want to bring them in?! Good grief, the heat the UK ever achieves is absolutely nothing compared to what horses experience in other countries. I honestly dont get why people are so quick to bring their horses in, especially when they clearly hate it! So basically the weather can now be too NICE to leave them out?!

Mine is out 24/7 year round anyway. There are stables at the side of the field which we leave open all the time. He hardly used his in the winter despite all the snow but most days when I go down he's stood inside at the moment. I think it's to escape the sun and the bugs! I have a bug rug on him.

am just swapping mine on to in during day, out at night.

they have been happy out until today, when mine was fence walking, rolling, rubbing and generally looking miserable, so i bought them in, they will stay in tomorrow as its meant to be baking, and will go out around 8pm after tea and come in at 7am.
stables are brick so much cooler than being in the field. they do have natural shade but star just wont use it and runs up and down getting even hotter, daft sod!and also chivvies the other to run too, so its nicer for them to be in during the day.

Mine are out, as 1 has been living out for the last 18 months, with nothing on at all and the other 1 hates being in, so out they stay, they have shade. They don't use it though!!
