are you meant to buy loose ring bits in a slightly larger size?

Yes I think so - I have a KK bit for Norm and just bought a fulmer french link which is slightly smaller than the KK but fits fine. I guess loose rings are more likely to pinch if they are on the smaller side?

I really do not know about KK or neue schule but as a rule loose ring bits fit true.

I use a normal loose ring (cheapo Decathlon brand) on my son's native pony who usually takes a 4" in an eggbut snaffle but his loose ring is 4 1/4".

Yes, just 1/4" bigger. People who use the same size often find that they need to use bit guards.

Definately by the loose ring a minimum of 1/4" bigger although I always go 1/2" to avoid the ring pinching the side of the lips, a bit guard isn't the best option as the saliva & sweating can cause iritation too.

Yes, like Dressage_Babe, I go 1/2" bigger in a loose ring.
