I am quite picky, after a few bad experiences because I didn't find out enough about yards (my fault completely!) I am now very picky! I may have to move in a few weeks and am finding the prospect of a new yard very hard, I am so finicky its unreal, but I think its rightly so, you horses home should be the best you can afford and somewhere you feel comfy.

So how fussy are you about yards and is it ever bad to be too fussy?

I haven't got a horse to need a livery yard, but I've always been really fussy about riding schools. I've lived in this town for seven years now and I've only just found one where I like the people, the atmosphere, the horses and everything! It's worth being picky IMO.

I am fussy - it is to be my horses home as well as somewhere I have to spend a lot of time as well as pay for! There are certain things I want in a yard that I am just not prepared to compromise on - daily t/o year round for example. I went round loads of yards before finding mine - apart form doing all the things I wanted it just 'felt' right too. Have been here nearly 9 years and moved into the cottage at the yard a year after I got here - so it can't be too bad as its my home now too!!

I have just moved to the only other yard in our area which I would consider, and now I might have to move again to one which offers grass livery (or rent a field) cos I am so skint

I am severely displeased about the prospect

My problem is, I'm on a very good yard, which makes other yards pale in comparison. Plus I have to be careful with Ed as he needs certain things which I cant scrimp on.

Picky but not snobby. My current yard isn't as posh as some but has excellent facilities and most importantly things like the turnout and the stable which are what matter to D are just right for her.

Whereabouts are you? someone might recommend a yard that you don't know of.

Yes, very fussy now, having been at a few yards that weren't so good and horse and I were unhappy. I love my yard now, and really would not want to move. Its not so much fantastic facilities that I need, but love that my yard is so friendly, and the horses are really well cared for when I can't get there. There are people to ride with and go to occasional shows with. Horses are happy, turned out daily all year round. Its not crowded - there's plenty of land and not loads of horses. These are the things I am fussy about now.

Yes , my horse moved yards 3 times in 18 months !

One offered little turnout , one had a horrible owner who was also a terrible snob & the other was great ( only my horse was retired shortly after going there , but nothing to do with the yard . )

My exeriences of yards and their insufferable, mean spirited owners/managers and patrons has meant that i have given up horse ownerhip for the foseeable - hard to be believe, I know, but there it is.....

Yes!
It has to have good turnout with the option over at least 12/15 a day year round.
Turnout needs to be mixed sex as I have a mare and a gelding and wouldn't want them in different fields.

It needs to have a floodlit school as I work full-time and off road hacking or direct access to a bridleway and friendly people so I have someone to hack with

I am picky in so much as I want year round turnout, an arena to ride in, a stable for at least the winter and hacking. It also has to be DIY and affordable.

I am not too fussed on horsewalkers, solariams or hot water to shower/bath your horse in, to me they are luxuaries.

The yard does have to have a nice atmosphere.
I am now seeking somewhere to move my horse when I move to Edinburgh and so far it appears a lot of places are Full livery or are too expensive. This will be my horses 3rd yard in about a year but by no means her fault. I just have moved around alot, but she doesnt mind, which is good.

I am not fussy but my pony is! He has to live out 24/7 and he has to like his field companions and he has to have his own pile of hay if hay is feed in the winter.

As long as he is happy I am happy.
