Are you put off by bad grammar in advert replies?

In advertising your horse for sale online...

Not talking the usual scam ones, but:

When someone replies in text talk with really bad spelling or not properly formed sentences they obviously haven’t bothered to check, does this put you off?

SERIOUSLY?

I don’t know why but I am really wary of them.....

forget about poor spelling and grammar, that makes no sense at all!!!

I do dislike people that make no effort to get things right.
 
I'm even more annoyed by the ones who send me a message through the site just asking me to call them about the horse. If they can't afford the call or be bothered to make it and don't tell me anything about themselves i'm not sure they're right for my little horse. Grammar that poor suggests child to me.
 
When it is really bad I do even though I am hardly the picture of written perfection myself. Otherwise if it's mild I look past it from the average person. If it is a professional on a professional page it really puts me off

Just sent a reply to be polite anyway, a thanks but no thanks, I have other people lined up already...
At the end of the day in a few sentences I think you pick up a vibe of if they are what you are looking for or not.
 
bad grammar anywhere puts me off.
on horse adverts, on horsey websites(more particularly that south wales horse rescue site), horsey advert replies... just says to me: if you can't thoroughly articulate or type out a sentence properly, how do you care for a horse ??!!

Thats the thing, I think if they can't be bothered to re-read their message to check it makes sense then they are probably messaging multiple people and certinaly not really that interested in anything else but price.

Yes I think it definatly puts me off sales adverts too.
 
What about if the person is dyslexic? Would you turn someone down if they had sent you one like that and were dyslexic?

It's not always easy to tell if a person is dyslexic. Surely a dyslexic person can look after a horse as well as someone who doesn't have dyslexia
 
Thats not dyslexia fgs.

I would ignore that! But also because I would ignore any texts - we've just bought a horse and I rang every single person - you find out so much more about each other that way! xx
 
No it wouldn't.

I am not selling the horse via an email so I'll make judgement face to face.

If I don't like someone (for whatever reason) then I won't sell them a horse, I have done it before and will do so again no doubt.

I have a friend who always uses text speak, I have to translate slowly but that's because I am old and doddery, but, and this is a big BUT her horses are some of the best looked after I know and they want for absolutely nothing.

I knew someone would mention this, no of course if they were dyslexic, but there is a spell checker and replies that seem to be random words strung together and 'hw much yer want 4 it'

I have heard off some lovley people too however, have a lady coming to see him who is looking for another after hers has been retired at 23 yrs and has been with her since a baby, im like 'yay ! Long-term home potential !'

Plenty of dylexics are able to formulate comprehensible text, even without the use of spell checkers and of course they can also just take that little bit more effort and actually ring up. Texting is just lazy and IMO rude.

Now that is taking it a bit too far tbh. I know plenty of wise horse people who know a horse and its care better than most but I doubt they could solve a comlicated math equation or write a novel. Some people also have learning disabilities such as dyslexia but can be completely in tune with an animal
 
A dyslexic person could always phone and avoid the spelling completely.

A research paper last week suggested that people spend less money on websites with grammar and spelling mistakes, so maybe a lot of peeps care.

It is quite easy actually. Most dyslexic people have sequencing difficulties, which result in mis-spelt words, not in text-speak. Many dyslexic people can use a spell-checker.
 
Spelling or mispelt words don't put me off as when I'm on my iPhone or iPad I'm always spelling things wrong! But if someone can't be bothered to type a full sentence than why should you bother responding, that sentence makes no sense at all.
 
OH is dyslexic and wouldnt ever text to an ad only phone, and yes i would be put off a text like this as its not even text speak its ompaloompa
 
I will admit that I am!! To be entirely honest I associate bad grammar and poor spelling with the rough, chavvy people of society *prepares to be flamed*
I would also prefer a phone call as opposed to a text!!!
 
hate lazy text talk with a vengeance, i know not everyone can spell perfectly or has perfect grammar, but you can tell if someone has put any effort into a reply and imho if they can't be bothered to try and make the right impression in an initial enquiry then they probably aren't worth answering!
 
Put off by bad grammar? Yes, probably. Spelling less so but certainly put off by text speak. I am sure there are some genuine dyslexics out there but many who claim to be dyslexic would have just been called stupid when I was a boy!:rolleyes:

But all this talk of phoning! I hate the phone and won't use a mobile! I know of nothing ruder than the incessant insistent ring of a phone demanding I drop whatever I'm doing and give immediate attention...so generally put "Email initially" in adverts. Then I have a written record I can refer to if necessary. If anyone phones without emailing first, it's "No"! Yeah, I know!:p
