Are you rugging up in this dreadful weather?

Nope, it's not cold, just wet, they won't melt

I was shocked to see cobs on my yard rugged up yesterday - I had a T-Shirt & a very lightweight coat on and was roasting. I know each horse is an individual and it's up to the owner and none of my business etc, but I'm talking about overweight (by the owner's admission) traditional cobs.

Last year I did have a problem with rain scold - I think the fact horses have their summer coats not thick winter woolies so have less protection, plus the warm temperatures despite the rain, helps the bacteria gestate. I figured that putting a rug on would probably help the bacteria along! Plus T hates having a rug on and it rubs his mane, so smeared it in Sudocream, which did the job of healing it and creating a good barrier.

Both of mine are out naked, 24/7....

Where we are its actually quite warm, and the rain isn't constant, more like the odd shower occaisonally for 30 mins. I have thought about rugging the TB but decided against as I didn't want him getting too warm! They are both happy grazing away so I'm not worried.

No she's out naked, she's a horse! Will however be bringing her in for a few hours in a minute so that her back's dry when I go to ride later on. She'd rather be out though!

My Arab is rugged in a lightweight turnout with no fill but my yearling and my IDx mare are out naked all have field shelters which they are in so I have given them hay today

My retired TB doesn't get a rug, he is a fat begger and won't melt

My 5yo competition horse gets a waterproof sheet when he is in field overnight (unless it is hot and sunny when he gets turned out), he'd survive without, but is a slim jim and I'm shovelling hard food down him so would rather he utilised it for work rather than keeping warm. He is in stable rugless during day

light weight for one of mine and other to nakey! but they have feild shelter and very good hedges and trees for shelter too!

one of mine is out in a lightweight (he is stabled at night) the other two that r out 24/7 were in lightweights until about 2hrs ago when they were so shivery i took pity and put medium weights with necks on them

ets. it is very windy and exposed here, and I'm sure if they lived somewhere else they would b fine in just lightweights or even naked.

Mine are both on the lean side so have lightweights on as I'd rahter not have to shovel more feed into them to keep them warm!!!

I know they won't melt - however it means they are happy out for longer as they both hate the rain!! They are sensitive types!!

i have at/b with afield shelter and no rug and i have a appy x with no shelter or rug but he has plenty of fat to keep him warm. i think they have there rugs on long enought in the winter!

No. For one thing, I packed my rugs away in April and I ain't getting them out again, and for another, I'm too hot ATM in anything more than a T Shirt, rain or not. No way am I rugging my horse.
