It's scary how it comes up on you isn't it! We're pretty much there I think, got hay, stables have been pressure washed and we've decided how to split field, rugs have all been washed and re-proofed.

How about you?

I have all my haylage in, thats me prepared for winter :) We have winter and summer paddocks and our winter ones are all ready. So just need to get my bedding in, but then as a yard I buy that monthly throughout winter so no desperate rush. My feed will be delivered in in October. All my rugs are cleaned and repaired.

Just picked up my last rug on Friday so all ready to go. Finally relented yesterday and popped a lightweight turnout on my boy after being naked for 4 months! Just think of it as a quick 6 months and we will be in the spring again before we know it! :D

All rugs bought, repaired and cleaned, hay stored, water taps lagged, winter field growing a nice length of green.

Only thing we're missing is a companion for her!

Oh, and a new wheelbarrow. Why do they always break just before you really need them?!

not really! we know what fields they're going in for the whole winter so only certain ones get trashed and can be fixed next year! :D
Pony is going out neked so she gets most of her coat through and then when i start riding she'll be fully clipped and rugged but still out :)

kinda... actually no not really.. i have only bought hay that will last till christmas time, rugs still waiting to be washed, electric fencing waiting to go up in the winter field, stable matts need to be moved, bedding needs to be bought, and i still need to find all my warm clothes! got enough water containers to keep a yard going for a month so should be alright but turning out is gonna be a nightmare :o

Yep. Got matting and bedding. Got hay for the whole winter. Rugs done and packed away, got rugs for all the four leggeds should they need them... Some do some might. Got thermals for the two legged people.

Rugs havent been washed or re proofed but have OH dad coming to mend tap and fix chicken and duck houses, hay is on order and will get delivered at some point and have got 20 haynets winging their way to me so haynets dont have to be done twice a day. I'm about as organised as anyone will ever get me :-)

I know our taps will freeze over winter so I'm trying to think of a good way of insulating a jerry can so there's water available if needed. I was thinking wrap it in something and put in in the feed room - any suggestions?

An old double duvet.

I'm not set at all - I keep gaining more horses so I need to get them sorted out with rugs and the likes lol! At least I will have 2 on pretty much box rest for most of the winter so they can share a turnout rug for their walks and short t/o times as they won't be out together!

Preparing now!

Lot's of tidying up, moving things about, getting the hay into the right place, getting the winter fields ready (they go on end of October, and stay until end of March)...

OH has a week off soon, and that's when he gets the rest of the jobs done.....

We like the yard to 'go into winter tidy, and come out of winter tidy!'....

Yeh I think I am ready, I only rug one horse and her rugs are ready for use. Stable is always ready to take one in if required, otherwise the door is open and the cushionoid shettie can come and go as he pleases from his paddock. My hay supplier delivers my hay has I want it in 20 bale loads, I cannot really store more than 40 anyway. Feed will be bought each month, like usual only more bags than normal, winter fields are full of grass so will not need to feed big buckets or hay untill febuary.
I am lucky and have natives/cobs who do very well all year round. Only difference this year is I have a yearling cobxwb who last year was still feeding from her dam, so this will be her first proper winter so will have to keep an eye on her weight wise, I am not sure how she will do although she has been holding her weight during the drought with poor grass.
