My horse isn't too bad in the wind, me on the other hand, i'm a bit of a wimp with it and don't like riding when there's strong winds. But gonna have to get on with it this week as doesn't look like its disappearing anytime soon!

Anyone else not like riding in the wind?

Neither my pony nor I are bothered by the wind but there's one road I won't go down because the trees are large and overhanging and branches often get blown off. We did get chased down the road by some recycling bins the other week on a windy day though.

Bad weather doesn't bother me so I will ride in anything. I tend to do what the horses are happy with though. Fly hates this weather and will leave a full bucket of food to get into her stable. Molly being a baby, I thought would like to go out despite the ground but no...she tried to follow me back, almost pushing through the gate. Instead they both got turnout in the school and Fly also went on the walker.

Luckily most days I am able to just get on and go in the brief lapses in bad weather :-)

I have just got back from a hack - the wind was really scary and came home as quick as possible!

We live on a hill but usually once down to the lower lanes the wind is not normally so bad - not today however, and it seems to be everywhere!

My cob was a little star, even when the rain came in sideways, but wouldn't want to repeat the experience...! The other worry is cars - we get very little traffic around us, but have to be on constant alert as can't hear them coming.

When is this winter going to end? It is starting to feel like a real endurance test.....

Doesnt bother me what ever the weather, my girlie is very good, i dont ride out in really strong wind tho. The trees where i ride round are always falling im paranoid i may get squashed one day !

I'll ride in all weather except wind!!!!! Hate it and so does my mare and we make each other crazy in the wind! Our gelding on the other side couldn't care less. But I wills till not ride in the wind.

One of mine is a complete div in the wind, the other couldn't care less. Me... I left the barn early last night because I was convinced I could hear footsteps outside in the dark, and the wind kept me from listening properly.

I like riding in rain and a bit of wind but not a big fan of strong wind because of potential trees falling and bags flying at you etc, more because I don't trust any horse not to spook in those conditions!

I took my horse out in hand today and she was brilliant with the buses, vans and big vehicles which we've had problems with, but when we got to the super quiet bit in the village that is quite open she did a bit of dancing about in the wind!

I used to be quite scared as the horses I used to ride would always get the wind up their tails... But current share cob is great so am more than happy to ride in wind now :-)

My mare is spooky in the wind most of the time so I don't take her out if its bad usually but a couple of weeks ago she really surprised me when it was so bad I thought I was going to get blown off and she didn't bat an eye! Funny thing she is!

My pony is undecided whether he likes strong wind. If he's got lots of energy suddenly wind is extremely scary and he will bolt and get very jumpy. But if he's in a lazy mood NOTHING bothers him!:D

I spooked at a leaf the other day, thought it was a bird or a mouse coming to attack my foot, turned out it was a brown crispy leaf blowing towards me in the wind, I was rather embarrassed to say the least.

We are both very spooky in the wind. And there was loads of water rushing around today as well. I wouldn't have taken him out if it hadn't been first possible ride for 2 weeks due to ice. Let loose some demons in the school first!

I don't like it when the wind makes you think there is a car constantly approaching - and a very large one too.

I think on the whole I was spookier than him!

Not so much spooked by wind but i won't ride in heavy wind unless in arena and even then not if trees around arena. Too risky with falling branches and on roads don't like not being able to hear.
However after a month off due to weather i will give it until wind dies off before getting back on board even though horse normally schools better in wind

Horses aren't bother but I hate the wind. :o

It makes me tense, irritable and jumpy. I think it's mostly the noise that bothers me: the constant whistling noise irritates me no end (always been quite noise sensitive) and the fact I can't hear well makes me tense and yes, spooky :o . I find it really hard to concentrate when it's windy. Plus I hate my hair being blown into my face so wind makes it even worse. 8million Harris.are needed.

Agree with those who mentioned not being able to hear traffic in the wind.
We are in a busy village, with narrow lanes and lots of cars/lorries, no school, so have to go on the roads.
Horse is brilliant in any weather and in traffic BUT not being able to hear whats coming behind you is dangerous around here and all the hi-viz in the world doesn't slow them down, or stop them overtaking on blind corners!
Being able to hear whats coming behind you makes all the difference.
Not bothered by any other weather tho, except maybe a thunderstorm.

Ned is fine in strong winds. I don't really notice a difference.

Me on the other hand... I'm a big baby and I didn't ride yesterday because of it!
I needed to put some cream on his hind legs, I thought he might be jumpy because of the wind, it was awful! Ned, on the other hand was an angel. He can be very touchy about his hind legs, but he stood like a statue for me :) Very proud of my boy!
