I usually do my last clip at the end of Feb, and was planning to redo my two this week. However on inspection today they are both starting to moult and now I'm dithering. My bright bay will probably be fine anyway - she has to be clipped as she is the hottest horse I've ever known, and sweats for a hobby. I'm more worried about the chestnut, who would be better clipped, but would manage fine if left. I just don't want him growing back biscuit coloured for summer! After two summers off injured I probably won't be eventing until at least the end of the season, rather doing local stuff that would involve some showing..

So, as in the title, are you still clipping?
 
I was clipping silly amounts up until the start of december when my mare stopped growing her coat- it has remained short since! except for a few cat hairs on the neck and face, so she is still staying cool enough- no need to clip for me :)
 
I always clip mid feb as get a lovely colour off it and mainly to stop the neddies overheating in the late spring.

I find if the few odd hairs have started to moult, it doesn't matter as after you've clipped this will usually stop in the rest of the coat. I wouldn't clip if there was a mass exit of hair though!
 
Mine is moulting big time and is starting to get a lovely summer coat, so no, definitely no more clipping thank goodness! Depends on the horse though, clip if you need to make them comfortable.
 
We havent had to clip anything since December. My horse was done in the last week of November and still has no hair! Dont usually do him again after the first week in feb as he has started to moult
 
I will do him again in the next couple of weeks but take his legs out this time as it takes forever for him to lose the hair on his legs. Oddly he is only moulting on his head :confused: but i dont want to scalp him so will leave it to fall out on its own :D
 
i gave mine their last clip a couple of weeks ago to get some of the horrid cat hair regrowth off (lol) - but they'll do now until the end of winter probably :) not majorly fluffy horses!!
 
clip away! get rid of the moult! it really doesnt affect the summer coat at all! i personally just cant stand the been clipped, but covered in cat hair look! clip anytime, and use a rubber curry comb for a massage/coat rub every couple of days and you will have a lovely summer coat. dont forget coat loss is subject to daylight hours NOT temps! still clipping hunters here as another 6 weeks to go til end of season, and tatty hunters just wont do!
 
We are starting the final round of clipping for the normal horses (i.e. not the weird ones that do require clipping all year round!). Mostly full clips, everything off including legs. I have left mine for another two weeks as he has only just come back into work post neurectomy op and is a little fresh! But I will clip him out full as the GA has affected his coat, making it really coarse and horrid.
 
Thanks all. I will clip then. I only do blankets usually. They do look rough and cat hairy at the moment - hence why I was a bit gutted when I noticed them moulting!

I was taught never to clip after the last day of Jan as it interferes with summer coat so I stick to this principle. no more clipping till Oct
 
Mine has only had a tiny bib clib this year, and is moulting already so I won't be clipping him. That said he is a rubbish non-shiny grey, and gets clipped if working hard in the summer anyway as he is too much of a hot bod with a thick summer coat.

I won't clip now as that will only bring on a very long cold snap - seems to be whats happened the last two winters :p

I was always taught end of Feb, so thats interesting. Mind you, Spring can vary by a month in more northern parts of the UK, so I guess that would factor in.

I had a good poke about in their coats today and couldn't see any summer coat showing in the baldy bits (shoulder rubs etc) so think I will be ok if they get done this week..

I learnt this in 1979-1980 when doing my BHS exams .

Funny how you stick to what has been drummed into you . Must say in relation to Jan

My mare started casting her coat end Jan. So if I was to do it end Feb she prob would have summer coat affected .
So much fluff is falling out I end up with all her hair on
me lol
 
I learned it in the late 80s doing my BHS exams. So much for consistency! Lol. I usually always clip mid-late Feb without problems, but its been a warm mild winter in general until the snow last week, which is why I was dithering.. Like I said, their coats didn't look like they were coming through when I really had a dig today, so I think they will be fine.
