My boy is off work at the moment (suffering with stiffness because of the cold, and possibly tweaked himself in the field) but I have to confess that the weather is so miserable I don't think I mind the not riding!

My own is probably doing 1-2 days a week of very light work having been turned out 24/7 for winter until the weather is better and the days a bit longer. I do however share the yard owners horse, and try to ride him 3-4 times a week. Having said that this weather and dark nights makes me want to hibernate!

Reluctantly! Got 2 x horses i have been competing all year, gonna try and wind them down now though. Also got a a youngster that is newly broken. Could do with the riding but really testing my stickability on these cold dark nights!

Hmm if you count hacking once a week as still riding then yes we are! After work when I've mucked out and done the jobs there's zero motivation left in me to scrape mud off them, heave muddy smelly rugs off, get my tack, tack up and ride!

Riding about 6 days a week but I try and time the day off for when the weather is really grotty. This morning was surprisingly pleasant, blustery but not as bad as the forecast gave.

Im not riding due to not having anything to ride! And my youngster who is ready to break is having the winter of doing nothing but chilling out ready for the new year possibly even feb!! Will do something when the weather gets abit nicer lol

Yep still managing 4 x a week at present - 1 x hour lesson, 1 x hour hack during the week and then 2-4 hour hacks on saturday and sunday. Can't say the weather's really been that bad yet, barring a couple of really wet rides.

Unfortunately I can only ride in the evenings as I work Mon-Fri all day- so most my riding over winter is done under school lights (which I am grateful for- I just hate the cold!).Weekends are fine though. I do think sometimes if you only have mainly dark evenings, and if you have no lights or school it can make things very difficult. I criticise no one for deciding to wind down riding if they want/need to!!

Yeah, I go out every day, all year round, except if there is dangerously extreme weather. E.g. no point going out in driving rain, can't do anything safely if the school is frozen, etc. Sometimes it's not exactly a pleasure, but I feel better afterwards & get a horrid restless feeling if I don't.

T x

Still managing 5/6 times a week, mixture of lessons, schooling and hacks. What stops me hacking is icy roads, poor visibility or gale force winds, otherwise I just get on with it I have, however, invested in thermal underwear and insulated boots. I also use a decent quarter sheet whilst warming up andwhen hacking.

Saturday and Sunday hacks only. Not really one for schooling but I will hop on and mooch around the school in the evening if the mood takes me.
Luckily I have a mellow fella who doesn't change with lack of work.

Was only riding once a week anyway but now the muds here he keeps throwing shoes right before my lesson! Haven't ridden in about two weeks now and now I've got the flu so will start again next week i think ..
My mares had a bit of time off anyway as yard is like a construction site and she won't focus on anything!

Barely.

I don't have lights so its dark before and after work in the week. Weekends have been busy with life the last few weeks so just had the odd hack here and there when possible. Its fine by me. Ponies are more than happy living out and mooching, as am I.

No, but only as I've had a baby and have decided to rough horse off completely, so he is enjoying being hairy, muddy and generally not doing much apart from eating, but he is a young 21 years, so I don't feel I'm wasting him.

Hoping to get him back in next year whenever weather better and baby in a more predictable routine etc.

Shame as he loves a bit of indoor winter jumping, but I think he is enjoying the grass even more and I am actually enjoying the break too , maybe we will be rejuvenated next spring ? ! Miss riding but nice to have no pressure sometimes to have to ride for sake of keeping fitness etc.

No, but down to me being ill the past few weeks rather than anything else. Have decided to stop worrying on the riding front for now and start again in the New Year if I can. I don't think mine are fussed if they get ridden or not.

My Instructor always said to me that horses don't forget anything and a little (or long) break can do them the world of good. :)

I can vouch for that. They may chose to appear as if they've forgotten, but that is not true!

I've left mine on a complete break and got back on and found although maybe rusty or stiff, they don't forget and never takes long to get back into the swing of things. Many folk I know say they've improved due to a well timed break.

..even better if that well timed break coincides with horrid weather :-P

Yes I'm still riding although if the weather's really bad like today (driving rain and high winds) then I usually have a day off!!

I don't have lights in my school so during the week we keep things low key, usually riding 3 mornings before work and then do a bit more at the weekends

I've pre-empted it this year, but for the last few years, each time I did His Lordships 2nd clip, something happened to put a stop to it. Weather, injury to him, injury to me, so he had his first chaser clip, did a little work and is now getting hairy. I might mooch around the school once in a while to stop me getting too stiff.

Yup still riding 5 times a week, 3 hacking and 2 schooling (winter regime), would rather wrap up than boil to death! I put him on the walker occasionally if I can't ride and won't ride in weather like tonight (lashing wind and rain) as neither will enjoy it!

Only at weekends : ( I sit at work staring out the window at the lovely sunshine all day, only for it to be dark when I go to the yard and by then all both of us want to do is go to our stable/house and have dinner
