Are you still riding?

It was nice in early November when it was still light enough to get a decent ride in before work, but when its just dark all the time there is no motivation! It's only in winter when I regret giving up working the evening shifts!!

I've been very impressed with my 10 yr old daughter... She's still riding 6 times a week for around a hours schooling each evening and a lesson or pony club activity on a Sunday .... I work til 6pm so she rides in the dark and freezing cold ... Never does she moan or say she doesn't want to... Even when I hint about having a night off!!

My horse is retired, but I have to hack at work as I'm an SJ groom. Nothing like hacking a fresh, fit four year old when it's freezing cold and blowing a gale!

Mine always have winter off because its too cold/wet/windy to ride/lunge etc so they have a break from dec-feb/march. Having said that its often too hot in summer to ride aswell, I just look for any excuse not to tbh

I would if I could but I don't have much childcare on my days off from work but my sharer is still taking my boy out - she is a fair weather rider though. I would ride in pretty much any weather now as if I don't grab the chance then I miss out

Yes, but not as much! Due to daylight hours more than the weather, I won't ride if it's raining but I can bear the cold if I'm warmed up from exercising and doing stable jobs. Horses need a few breaks anyway to heal up little injuries and sore bits (micro injuries my vet calls them)... even more breaks when it's cold and raining :D . My horse just had 5 days off and that's most he's had since the last time he was lame. I do try and get them ridden 4 or 5 days a week minimum in the winter and if they have a hard day's hunting they get a couple days off. I really should get them out jumping but the thought of standing in a cold warm up ring with the wind whipping across... hmm, think i'll wait a few months !

Past three days my boy has had off! - Attempted to ride today got in the school for 5 mins and the hail came battering down along with the thunder and lightning - cue quick dismount and run back into stables!
Feeling abit eek about not riding not wanting any weight going on him but I'm sure my boy is extremely pleased with the weather at the minute! Good to hear that others aren't feeling super motivated with this weather lol!

It just isn't possible other than a short hack at the weekend, weather permitting. In work by 8am, finishing after sundown, we have our own place which is wonderful but we don't have a school. Tinner hasn't been sat on for nearly three weeks, maybe I'll get out Sunday... I don't like not riding but I have to work, that's life.

At the moment managing about 3-4 times a week. Boys are probably going to have a couple of weeks off coming up after moving them this weekend, and then I'll be limited by daylight hours, but he's worked hard and winding down to be field ornaments for a few weeks will do them no harm I don't think.

Yep all in full work including hacking. We do have an indoor arena though and I've been sticking to hacking through the village when it's super windy as you can't hear the traffic well enough and they go far too fast on the back road.

Not managing it in the week as I don't have a love affair with the school and it's busy most evenings but riding both days at weekend if I can, either two hacks or one hack and one go in the school (if I must!). Did intend to get lunging a bit more this winter but have still to kick that into touch.

Been riding my 5 year old 5ish times a week. Sadly, she bucked her sharer off at the weekend which is a real shame because she is a cracking rider and it was great having someone else riding twice a week. Got a lesson tomorrow at 7.30am and tbh I'm dreading it slightly as it is due to rain and also 19mph winds.

Riding school riders simply book and turn up regardless of weather. I ride twice a week and its what gets me through winter.

I remember when I was a kid turning up for my riding lessons so cold I actually started crying! It was torture. My parents paid a lot for the privilege too... what was I thinking !

Yes as it's my job! I'm riding/exercising up to 6 a day mon-fri at work (can be hacking, schooling, jumping, leading from horse etc), and then have mine to ride in the afternoon. At the moment I aim to ride one of my two every other day, so each get every other day off, but they both get ridden both days on weekends. Works well for me and the horses! Not going to lie, I am constantly shattered and frozen, with parts of my body that I never even knew about in agony, and I often have to remind myself that "I love horses..honestly, I love horses..."!
