Reading a thread on FB about changing horses stable and/or passport names. Loads of people saying it was really bad luck
Mine have had both stable and passport names changed (cost a tenner each to do
passport names).
What does everyone else think..??

Mine is called Polo - really daft name, especially for a grey - but I'm not brave enough to change it!!
The pony was given a name by the rescue so it could go in the loan contract, I do call him something else as it wasn't really his name in the first place!

Changed one of mine when I bought him. The other two have registered names I wouldn't change, but I use variable diminutives which you could argue are "changed" stable names.

Doesn't bother me, if we were all superstitious then we would never get anywhere E.g. Black cats, ladders etc ;)

Changed both both of ours however I was only told later on that is it supposed to be bad luck :p must say we're doing great 3 years on
 touch wood!!!!!!

I dont change any animals names, not because I'm superstitious but I know I'd be upset if someone changed the name of an animal I'd named so I dont want to upset anyone!

As s result my horse is called Ethel and my cats are Bunyip and Shaun :o

I'm not superstitious about anything and have changed horses names if they are fairly young.
I think names are important and its nice to choose one that is appropriate for the horse.
My current mare was 12, so I didn't change it as she's used to it- and its a perfect name for her anyway.

My horse was originally called Kelly but her pervious owners renamed her Kelsey, which I am glad about, would be a bit weird having a horse called Kelly after being bullied by one at school! so that was lucky! Though before they bought her, she was "all singing all dancing", apparently! but the time I got her, she was a total nutter! so not sure if that was due to bad luck, or bad ownership!

Either way shes my little gem now at the grand old age of 28!

otherwise I wouldn't be that bothered about changing their names.

my mini is Jeremy but I call him JJ!!

I have changed the names of several, not had bad luck with them any more than any other horse or pony. I have not changed a Passport name though as it does not seem necessary, they all have 'pet' names. I would though.

Mine's called nyrobi but his stable name is rob. I call him Roberto with the emphasis on Bert. I wanted to call him Hades or Odin but unfortunately everyone at the yard started calling him Rob before I could. I don't think it's a bad thing at all to change, especially if it's a hideous name!

I don't like changing names, I had a little mare whose name was changed about 3 times before i got her (as a 2 yr old) and now her new owners have changed it again. Poor little thing must be v confused :-(
