You probably know that it's pretty hard these days to get a pony book published, unless there's a cast iron guarantee that the publishers can get a lengthy series out of it.
However, Fidra Books (who will republish the excellent Silver Snaffles and Six Ponies later this year) are running a competition for a new title to add to their list, the prize being publication. Pony books are among the things that they're looking for, though here is a bit more of an idea:
"A full-length novel aimed at the 9-14 age group and which fits with the type of books that already make up our list. You might have an idea for a 21st century Bunkle, a Highland adventure like those of Ian and Sovra, a fantasy in the Winter of Enchantment vein, a pony book or a modern school story. Your book might be set in the present day or the past, it might be written in the first or third person a bit of research on our website will show the range of books that we publish."
For more details, please see Fidra's page on: http://www.fidrabooks.com/competition07.html
The judges include Anne Digby, who wrote the Trebizon series, Victoria Walker, who wrote The Winter of Enchantment, and me. As I'm a judge I'm afraid I can't respond to any emails or pms about the competition, but if you have questions, you can contact Fidra Books.
Good luck if you decide to enter.
