Are your dogs allowed on the furniture?

[ QUOTE ]
I always find it shocking that some people I know let their cats on tables and kitchen counters. To me that is just so unhygenic

If I find my cat on a counter I have to disinfect it with dettol straight afterwards.

My cats never go up on kitchen work tops, however I used to have a friend who had 9 cats and she used to allow them on the countertops when she was preparing dinner.......

. Needless to say, I never ate at her house...yuck!

I take samples of dog hair with me when I furniture shop. If the upholstry matches the dog it saves on vacuuming. My ancient Catahoula can't get on the furniture anymore so she is confined to her dog bed. My daughter's mini dachsie gets on her chair with her assistance and has a ramp so he can get on and off her bed. The lab has her chair plus a ramp so she can get on my bed. The ramp was originally for my smooth dachsie who was pts in Sept. due to cancer. The cats go anywhere they please although I do try to keep them off the kitchen tables and counters. I don't know what the little devils do when I'm not there so I'm constantly disinfecting the kitchen surfaces.

So gross!

All allowed everywhere, but not the table and kitchen worktops. Dog has been known to sleep in between us on top of the duvet - stops us fighting as to who has the most as she anchors it in place

Dog is not allowed on anything except her bed, she is not allowed upstairs either so no chance of her getting on our bed (i feel so mean!) the cats are allowed everywhere and you can normally find them asleep on a bed! I have not seen them on the worktop, although i can say what they do when we are not there!

Not allowed in the house much, come in some evenings to enjoy the fire. Occasionally sit on lap, but they kind of know it's not on. I did discover the puppy on the sofa recently (had nipped out to put kettle on to boil). Don't think she'll be trying that again.
But, this is my dog in our previous house, he is watching TV and has no shame!!

Ours are allowed on the sofa if there is a blanket on it (so i can wash it plus it's a new leather sofa!):

Our house it upside down (not literally - the bedroom & bathroom is downstairs and kitchen & lounge is upstairs) so don't really have a choice with them being allowed upstairs.

Bessie doesn't go on the bed but we sometimes find Domino alseep on it.

The Jacks are allowed where they like (except on the tables!!) but the big dogs aren't allowed - although I'll let one through for a cuddle sometimes when mum and dad aren't in!

Is that your PILLOW that puppy is on?

Very cute, they aren't daft are they? If I found my dogs on my bed I would be disinfecting it...... eurgh, I know where my dogs have been

I know where mine have been that's why they're cleaned every night before bed!!

It's my bros bed, it could be anything Jim's sleeping on
grin.gif
LMAO

They go to bed when I do - I don't have a problem with it so long as they don't smell!

Whippets are the ultimate sofa-hoggers! And my boys are very clean and fragrant
grin.gif
.....not sure I'd be so keen on a big stinky hairball on the furniture (that's why OH sits on the floor
tongue.gif
he he) They don't sleep in bed with us (although sometimes would prefer them to OH
grin.gif
) but they are allowed up for a cuddle in the morning.
Less happy with cats all over the table....fluff everywhere....and work surfaces definitely out of bounds...yuk!

Here's Eli doing his best to blend....he knew he should've been on his blanket

That Lab isn't, and he doesn't try, neither does he go upstairs, again never tried. But the Spaniel does, he was allowed as a puppy as he was the only dog and small, when the Lab came he was meant to stop, but he doesn't realise that. Same about upstairs, and he also has taken a fancy to sleeping on the kitchen table

hehe whippets? you ought to try living with a grey or lurcher hehe

Tsk. You should ask Stella whether *we're* allowed on her furniture.

Bostons are an odourless, low-shedding breed, so I don't mind. Besides, she's polite enough to "ask" first.

Oh I've had the lot LLL! Here's my foster boy Arthur, a couple of years ago, his first day at my house....he was on a mission to find the sofa the minute he walked in the door

I think lurchers & greys lounge on the furniture like it's their god given right.....while whippies tend to look a bit sheepish, like they've got a sneaking suspicion you're not going to be thrilled about it
grin.gif

he is and he's allowed on my bed but he's not allowed to play on the furniture or his toys on there, he's only allowed up for cuddles or chilling out. he knows what 'off' means and respects it.

how can you say no when they are so comfy?!

Wow, look at him! Is he a Chinese Crested? If so, is he still a baby, his hairdo doesn't look quite as long & tufty as the pics I've seen of them? (never seen one in real life!)

yep he is 19 weeks! ive just put a post up yesterday in the photo gallery of the little dude if you'd like to look, they are definately a 'unique' breed!! thats how people politely put it anyway!

Just been for a look, cute piccies, I think he's gorgeous!

Our rottie has never been allowed on the sofas. In the old house he was allowed on the bed when invited, as the only place we could fit his cage when he was a pup was in the bedroom, so it sort of went from there! Moved now though and our new stairs are seriously steep, so for the sake of his joints he isn't allowed up and down them.
Cat goes upstairs (lets him get away from the big oaf of a dog!), gets on beds and sofas etc. He's only 14 weeks old though so can't jump onto worktops yet! He is mostly an indoor cat though (we live on a very busy road) so at least not quite as disgusting as one that has been catching and eating beasties!
