Are your horses going out in the snow?.

Bcos she says there's nothing for them to eay but i feed him hay in his stable so i would rather put it in the field or ill even pay for extra hay. when I suggest this she says its bad for their legs and too dangerous for her. But i put my lad out myself and bring him in as he's diy and iv always turnt him out in the snow as hes so unhappy being in. He's a lovely boy but once he's been left in for more then a day he's awful! Really stressing all the liverys out!

Ours go out at 6.30 am and come in at about 3.30. All fully clipped hunters. Can't ride them so they go out with plenty of hay. Yes it's snowy, rutty and icy in places but they just get on with it.

Mine is still out for 12+ hours a day. I did have second thoughts when I had to dig through the drifts just so I could get the gate open, and it is rutted, but this will take weeks to melt and there's no way he's staying in that long. They're not stupid, provided they're out everyday they just mooch around. Though I felt guilty when he was belly deep in a drift by the gate the other night!

Mine go out for their nornal 8 hours. With hay and plenty water, they are more than happy, saying this mine are out every day unless the weather really is horrific. They would go mad if I kept them in. Mine are kept at my house.

my 2 have been out in the snow each day. they go out between 8.30 and 9 and come in between 3 and 5.
however, the snow balled up really bad today in my shod mare, so i think they'll come in earlier tomorrow to avoid hurting her

My YO closed the school to all outside bookings so that we have been able to use it for regular turnout for all of the livery horses. It has been a lifesaver.

Snow doesn't worry me, but the frozen pitted ground that is so uneven thanks to the endless flooding being hidden and rock hard under the snow does bother me.

Ours had their first field turnout today and thanks to the school, all but one we perfectly calm. The one that wasn't never is anyway, so no change there.

Mine are going out for about an hour and a half each day, my arab seems to hate it, she eats her large pile of hay then neighs to come back in and eat it in her nice warm stable. My welshie hates it when the snow is falling as it tickles her nose, and only the shetland seems to enjoy it. None of them are what I would term stir crazy, all walking calmly to and from the field and to be honest, when the thaw comes, I think they will just put their heads down for the grass rather than gallop around. Can't wait to ride again though, been nearly 2 weeks since I rode as the lane has been to icy.

Mine are going out every day until about lunchtime. They start waiting by the gate then so they come back in for some hay. When the snow has gone from the field they will have their usual full day turnout.

Mine are out from 9am to 4pm - they are stir crazy by 9am! They had a mad half hour trashing my small paddock yesterday as the hunt was around in the distance - thanks for the warning... not!!:eek:

I then stupidly tried riding my youngster for the first time in a week, big mistake, we had fly bucking, rearing and much squealing for my other boy :o:o Gave up but will try a small ride in my arena today which kind hubby has slogged with to make a track. Roll on spring!!!:)

Unfortunately the path to get to the winter fields is like a skating rink so too risky. Have managed to put him out in the round pen which is reasonably close to his stable and not too icy. He is not particularly keen on the round pen- think it is too boring for him but at least he stretches his legs and has a roll. The ground in the menege is rock solid so can't do too much in there. Roll on 'the thaw' so he can get back out in the field. The frustrating thing is that 3 miles up the road where it is less open and more residential the snow has all but gone.
