Are your horses more interested in you than their mates?

Would your horse rather spend time with you or with his equine mates?
Hubby and I were cleaning out the water trough in the lads field at the weekend.
Omar came over, had a look at what we were doing, decided it wasn’t interesting and wandered off to eat grass. Hovis however stayed with us, trying to “help”. By “help” read steal the brush, the jug we were using to bail out with, open the cupboard where the taps are, splash about in the puddle of water we were emptying etc etc.
This is not unusual - if hubby or I are in the field Hovis would rather be with us than his mates or eating, even though he is massively sociable with other horses.
He will come to call when you go to fetch him from the field but he doesn’t come flying up to see you when you just go to catch him. But if you are doing something he’s fascinated.
Omar is far more aloof and whilst will come to check it out, rarely hangs about.
What are your horses like?

I have 1 that used to be completely wild and after a long process she is now the type if you are in the field she wants to be with you. Which is lovely as it has taken a long time to get there.
Another 1 he is just like a big lap dog and will just have to be licking or rubbing or near you as much as possible

George is odd, he is quite aloof in the field, he likes to boss everyone around but he is very rarely seen standing near another horse, grooming them etc. But if I bring him in on his own, he gets in a bit of a nervous tizzy and you do need to keep an eye on him, although people on the yard say that when I walk away he is craning his neck looking and listening for me - ahhh!

My boy is clearly a lap dog in the form of a huge horse!!! He loves being in during the day as all the action happens then. He will get involved in anything and everything. He helped me undo my coat the other day as well as tidy up after he had been clipeed. My old cob was the same he loved people and would ignore the other horses if there was a person around to play with. Both of mine were/ are young so i think it depends on how you bring them upp up. I spend lots of time fussing and being withthem so now i think they prefer people as part of their herd so to speak.

one of mine is like a lost puppy! Seriously follows me everywhere and is always trying to nibble my arms like I'm a carrot or something

my other couldn't care whether I'm there or not unless i have food lol

Both of mine are nosy and like a fuss so will follow me around as soon as I appear

. The wb however will mooch of to do his own thing quicker. The cob will hang around and 'help' tipping over wheelbarrows, checking your pockets for treats

- dog biscuits will do!!

- and generally getting in your way. She will disappear as soon as you mention work though.....

My 2 would always come over to "help" if you were in the field, be it water troughs, poo picking, whatever. They would rather be with me than their friends.

Nope he is a clydesdale - both Cairo and now Farra love to help us in the field - by pushing the barrow over, standing over the pile of poo - poking us with noses asking to be scratched, and generally be a very large hairy shadow.

Stinky is the same - would rather be investigating what we are up to than off down the field eating.

Only time they go off is if they are just turned out and grass is too tempting. Even then they tend to stay with us for 10 minutes before going off to eat and are never very far away and watching us in case we do something worth coming over for.

It could also be that mine are the same age as Hovis - and very very nosey.

Mine couldn't care less. She is another weird one - she won't stand in her stable without a companion next door (canters on the spot until she's dripping with sweat, then continues until any random horse is put in the stable next door) but out in the field she doesn't like the other horses too close to her. But similarly, she's not really interested in what we're doing in field. Apollo (another livery) on the other hand always comes to investigate, cue hilarious scenario of OH trying to keep him out of the way while I frantically shovel poo into the barrow and make a run for it!
