Freestyler - Yes, JLav is quite right about qualification criteria and destination - the music qualifiers run at the AF lead to the Music Regionals Jan - Mar 08. Well done.

There were thoughts of running music classes under the AF banner, but because the qualification would go direct to a championship, that would have resulted in fewer combinations going through to a potential AF music championship than to the current Music Regionals. So the classes are there as an encouragement to run more music qualifiers for the standard regionals.

However, there will be an annoucement shortly to encourage more Novice & Elementary Restricted riders to attend the Music Regionals. Keep an eye on the BD website.

As for the qualification from AF to Petplan Equine Championship, the only reason that it is "as clear as mud" is because the qualifications have changed prior to the issue of the new Rule Book in order to get more people through. Yes, a bit confusing in this interim period, but rather harsh to be scathing when BD are increasing opportunities for riders.

To clarify for katiejaye - though most of the info is here already -

For Prelim Novice Restricted and Novice Open the top 4 from each AF will qualify for the April Championship. If there are two sections, then it will be the top 2 from each section.

For Elem upwards it is still the top 2 who qualify. If two sections, the winner of each.

In both cases, if there is equality for the final qualifying place and the score cannot be split on collectives, both (all) tied combinations will go through.

I think the confusion is due to the significant difference in the size of the sections. Obviously you have a greater chance of winning if you are in a section with few competitors in (that's not to take away the win of the person in Section B, I'm sure it was well deserved). The rule would only make sense if the class was split evenly. Anyway all we can do is wait and see, it was a great day out and was very pleased with Lou

katiejaye remember rules have just changed and top 4 now qualify for area festival finals so presumably if split top 2 from each section go through. where is troi where you need her

Not in the elementary it isnt, only prelim, novice restricted and novice open. The elementary is the same rules as last year - top two qualify. If the class is split it is the 1st place from each class that qualify. Wild cards might be handed out this time round again tho, so fingers crossed for CSY Molly and Rachel x

Oh, and back to the original post, ive qualified in the Novice Open

Indeed - and organisers are asked to make sections as equal as possible when splitting for precisely that reason. However, if there are a large number of withdrawls from one section, they may end up with a large variance.

As far as the direct qualification goes, regardless of section size, it will be the first two from each (if Prelim or Nov) or winner of each for Elem +. However, wildcards will be offered again next Spring when entries have been received and BD know how many places are left. So for those who were a whisker away, there is a chance then.

On the topic of wildcards for the Petplan Equine Championships, these are only offered once the entries have been received from those qualified by right. Which is why the closing date for this is a couple of weeks earlier than the closing date for entries for the Winter Championships.

For those of you who have qualified - take care to enter by the right closing date. If not, even if you've qualified by right, if your entry arrives after the Petplan closing date and once the wildcards have been issued, you won't get a place.
