am i the only person that is surprised by how many people didnt put a tarp or similar on their school when it snowed so that they can just take it off and school as normal

or is it just me ??

And where do you find a tarp that size? Even a 20 x 40 one would be hard to find, plus how would you just pull it off? Can you imagaine how much the snow would weigh when it's 5 inches deep?

we managed to put a couple over our 40x25 and only missed a bit off the end and it wasnt hard 2 pull of we just pulled over to te short side and then got the quad 2 pull the rest off

the main problem seems to be that the surface froze before it even started snowing...and will probably remain frozen for a while after the snow thaws

Our school has snow all over it but as claire said, where would I get one that size? How could I afford it? How often do we get this much snow over a prolonged period?

I have heard loads of ideas for what I should do or have done, but I cannot afford to spend loads of money just so liveries wont be put out that they cannot ride for a week.

Sorry this might sound unreasonable, but it has hit a bit of a raw nerve.

We've just been riding in the arena as normal on on top of the snow. It's plain rubber so it isn't frozen underneath and the snow doesn;t ball up in their feet if you use engine oil/vaseline/stockholm tar etc.

We have managed to put tarps over a 22m lunge pen but it is very very hard work putting them down and taking them up laden with snow everyday. We then have to harrow it every couple of hours on average to keep it from freezing. Both of our arenas are un-useable- although after harrowing and harrowing them they look ok if you dig your toe into the surface underneath it is rock hard frozen. Unfortunately after some research we (and probably most other people) can't justify the thousands of pounds it can cost for products good enough not only to keep snow off the surface but that can also keep the frost from getting into the surface, for a 60x20 and a 70x30 when prolonged periods of such weather in this country are so rare (and will hopefully stay that way!)

No sorry its just me

So fed up with the snow! and fed up with digging a small track around the arena!

I wish I could find a solution that wouldn't cost too much but its a nightmare.

I have actually considered getting some for our livery yard's school so at least i can cover half and ride on a 20 m circle of lunge my horse.

its sand and rubber so does freeze but this might help prevent this?

How did you hold them down?. Id be mortified if i cane down the next day to find tarp flying around the yard and the horse have had nervious breakdowns in their stables lol.
