Hello!!

Im looking at building an arena in my field, Im in the course of looking at putting lighting up as well however I do know that planning permission needs to be granted for both.

Does anyone know much about the planning conditions involving both structures that could explain it in a straight forward manner or does anyone have a link that explains all the ins and outs of it?

Many Thanks

WE built a manege with lighting on our land with some neighbouring houses nearby. We did have to get planning and we had no objections and it was quite a straightforward process. We drew the plans ourselves on a scale map and took photos of the proposed siting. The planning officer came out initially and all was passed without hitch.

They ask for details of exactly what drains you are putting down and the materials you will be using, similarly they want exact detail of the height and type of lighting pole you will use and the wattage lamps etc.. I highly recommend having a chat to your local planning office - they are helpful and willing to offer advice. Hope this helps :)

Yes you will need PP for both arena and any lights that you wish to install. I would suggest however that you go for the areana first and then once that is installed and up and running you then go for the lights on a separate PP proposal.

this is from personal experiance, we put our PP for a 20x60 school with lights and mirrors at my home (private use only) it all in one go - thinking it would save time and money, but they turned down the school because we had lights and that they presumed that we would want to go for commerical use. The subject of traffic, parking, noise pollution etc etc etc all got bowled in, and permission was refused.

We then went back a step - put in PP for just the school, - granted 6 mths later the lights - granted but not allowed to use lights after 9pm - and finally 7mts later for the mirrors - granted but must plant trees for screening so that car headlights won't dazzle !! :-0 - took a bit of time but now I've got my wonderful school all kitted out !

Whoever puts your lights in will provide you with all the details needed for PP - the light levels, sodium levels, light poistion and arcs etc - they will also have experiance of PP and will help you all the way. I used Jumping Jack Flash - extremely helpful

Good luck - plan well and enjoy your new school
