Pipes, membrane and stone are usually all required. I think you might consider whether buying one component of an effective drainage system in isolation is a potential waste of money.

really the best thing you can do is to find a competent groundwork contractor in your afea and get a quote. It'll vary from north to south and east to west so guesses you get on here will be just that.

DO NOT scrimp on drainage though. It the most important part of the build. If he arena dent drain properly you'll be ruining the surface you put on and there'll be a fair amount of time you won't be able to use it. Think not just lakes of water but freezing in winter.

Yes I understand the drainage needs to be done correctly, just putting costs together and wanted an idea for the pipe work we have a quarry close by so stone etc we can sort easily

It is difficult to extrapolate the costs involved. Building materials prices are extremely volatile at present and nobody can know how many digger hours will be required without a survey. I think the only way you will get an estimate will be to contact drainage contractors and/or arena specialists and ask them to visit your site. They should be able to quote for pipes, stone and membrane or pipes and membrane if you are satisfied with your stone quote. I had a 20x40m sand arena installed last summer and I was amazed how much soil was displaced. There was mountains of the stuff which my contractor spread over the field after the build which was followed by agricultural contractors disk harrowing, seed drilling and fertilising. Multiple massive truck loads of stone and sand completely mullered the concrete yard which was quite thin to be fair not to mention ripping up the newly laid by the council road surface where they turned into my gates. It was a much larger operation than I anticipated but I live in a very wet and boggy part of Ireland so more of everything was needed to ensure I ended up with a successful arena. It cost about €26k unfenced.
