Arena hire - fair price?

An instructor is using my school to teach a group lesson to three others who box their horses over for this. I usually charge £10 for an hour, which includes use of jumps if required. So the question is, still charge £10, or would you expect to pay more?

Usually pay £10 - £15 per hour per person for a lesson, but that pays the instructor too.

What's you Public Liability Insurance like? Does it cover you if someone has an accident on your property for which you are liable especially as this could be seen as a business?

Our school is hired at £20/hr plus £5 per extra horse.

I pay £10/hr for the 1 I hire. If I want to use the jumps it's an extra £10.

I sort of think it should be more than a tenner for three people, plus the instructor is using my place to earn money, which is why I asked. Don't want to be greedy, just fair.

Most group lessons are charged at a much lower rate per head, than a private lesson. So although she will be earning money from 3 people, she will be unlikely to be charging the same as 3 x private lessons.

I am sorry but to me, it sounds like you are being greedy. Ask her what she is charging them and base your hire on that. You may find she looks elsewhere and you will be the loser.

I'd say £10 per horse. Are you insured??? Have they signed disclaimers....it might come back to haunt you otherwise

I am sorry but to me, it sounds like you are being greedy. Ask her what she is charging them and base your hire on that. You may find she looks elsewhere and you will be the loser.

The instructor doesn't pay, the pupils do, and I think most places would charge a bit more for three than one. I really am not bothered whether they come to me or not so I wouldn't be losing, and she is a he

Our local indoor school (60 x 40) is hired for £16 per hr, but it's a fab size and indoor too so that rate is ok.

No I'm not insured which is another reason why I'm not fussed either way!!

Funny innit - you think £10 per horse, Bigred thinks otherwise. I only asked the question to see what everyone thought, and it seems to be quite varied.

I have been charged £10 per hour and the instructors fee - quite normal round here.

£10 between 3 isn't that easy to work out... how about £13.50 an hour?

You didn't make it clear in your OP that it is the 3 x people who share the £10 hire cost. It sounded as though the instructor paid you the £10 and then took money off 3 x people for their lessons, and that you wanted a share of what she was earning.

If it was my school, and I charged £10 for using it, I would expect each person to pay £10. The instructor can keep her money.

I ran a clinic a couple of weeks ago, and hired a very big indoor arena. For the individual sesions in the morning, the venue charged us £10 per hour, and in the afternoon when we were doing a group session, the cost was £25 per hour (we had seven horses in the afternoon session). I was happy to pay this price, the arena is huge.
