Arena issue

I have recently just moved to a place with a lovely tyre crumb arena surrounded by a wooden fence. However my horses extremely large feet keep flicking bits of rubber out the arena. Can any suggest any material that I could put around the bottom of the fence to try and keep my surface in the arena and won't cost me an arm and a leg? Thanks very much :)
 
How about weed suppressing material that comes in rolls from garden centres, B&Q and the like? You could probably staple it to the fence. That'd be pretty cheap, and would probably take one person a day to do.

It may flap a bit though - depends on the spook level of your horse! I'd try and get help and pull it relatively tight before stapling.
 
Yeah I was thinking of loft boards which are made from chip board and relatively cheap however I wondered if they would maybe rot in the rain as it is an outdoor arena?
 
A show centre near me has 5ft fencing round their main arena and it was green webbing on one long side and short end from top to bottom, also serves as a wind break!
 
Chipboard would rot and crumble away, you can't varnish it effectively so the water would get in. Chipboard is basically made in a similar way to paper so I don't think it would last very long. Thin planks would cos you could varnish them, but I think that might be cost prohibitive.
 
That's a good idea! He is a very non spooky horse so that would be a problem and I can rope my other half into helping. I'll have a wee look on the B&Q website. Thanks
 
I just stapled chicken wire around mine - not so much to stop the arena being kicked out as have quite high kick boards but it does that too but to stop the bl**dy rabbits getting in. Works well.
 
Scaffold debris netting would be good, almost the same as many expensive arena windbreaks and woven small enough to keep the surface in

I used this around the bottom of my new arena and it has worked very well. Pull it super tight when you are stapling it and maybe invest in a hammer tacker to make life easier. I got the green which looks good, but the dogs can't see it and kept running into it until they learned it was there!
