Idiots giude please!
I'm on livery and need options to light up an arena - sufficient for lunging (if good enough to ride even better)

Must ...
Be easily portable and comply with not needing planning
No mains electric - so should either run of rechargable battery or off a car battery
Not too expensive - hoping for under £150

Many thanks!

These both look really good !!!

I'm in the same spot as you ihatework and would love some lights we have mains power but wouldn't stretch to the school

Maxine do you think those torch dock lights would light up a 20m x 20m space if you used 6 bulk heads ?? Ie 2 sets 3 along opposite sides ?? - I like this idea as only you can use them

Just about, my field shelter is 30ft long (9 metres approx and one light would give enough light to light the other end, so may end up with being slightly darker in the middle of the area but fine around edges if that makes sense!

I have the toolstation ones... orginally bought two, which was enough ( just) to lunge but not to ride, so bought another two.. they are easy to move around, and Ive got bungie straps on the fence, I keep them in a big carrier bag and hook them on before riding... last about 3 days schooling sessions for 1 horse before recharging, but I try and rememebr to bring them in as they say they are rainproof but Im not sure I believe it!!

Thanks loads for these Ideas I think I should be able to sort something out - a bit of a faff but 2 x50m cable reels and 2 of the tripod site lights should do me to actually be able to ride ! I'm chuffed

Santa is going to wonder what on earth I am up to !

How about these (or similar) - rechargable so you'll have to mess about with that fairly often. http://www.toolstation.com/shop/Lig...ED+Rechargeable+Floodlight/d220/sd2480/p26470

what sort of light do these give out - would they be able to light a barn about 15m by 10m? I presume that you can switch them off when you need to in order to conserve the battery life? Do you have to take the whole thing home to charge up, or do they have a battery unit that you can take out?

Maxine the same questions for you - except I can see how to charge that one up :)

Thanks

They are pretty bright, they only last turned on for 3 hrs or so, then you have to take them in to charge them ( about 3 or 4hrs but I plug mine in for the day). I had 2 in a 20x40 school, which was ok to lunge but wasnt enough for me to ride, with 4 I can ride ( but wouldnt jump) the problem is getting them at the right hieght so they dont blind you as you go past havent got it quite right yet!

I used the ones spottedcat said, but the bigger ones on a tripod that extends up. Think they were £17 & 2 lit up our field lovely! I just stood them on a bench to higher them up a bit xx

In desperate need of some of these but cant decide which ones to go for?
Quite like the ones spottedcat suggested as they look bigger and like they'd give off more light?

Where did you get yours from Tinap555?

Sorry, I've not used them, just knew they existed from site work! So can't answer the questions :( 2000 lumens is pretty bright though - certainly bright enough to lunge under I'd think.

OH has just set up the lights for our arena. We run 2 50w LED floodlights (IP65 rating for weatherproofing) from local supplier but avail on ebay etc about £30 each. Although more expensive initially LED lights give out less heat so lower fire risk and need less energy for the same light output. They need 240v cable (£25 for 50m) and are mounted on old scaffold poles. We run them from a 12v leisure battery via an inverter which cost about £30 from machinemart. The inverter is about the same size as a house brick and it crocodile clips onto the battery with a plug socket on the other end. It means we don't need to worry about generator noise and it is so light and easy to plug in. I keep it in the car so there's no risk of theft, but I suppose it could easily be boxed in and bolted down. OH's calculations show about 15hrs use from the battery before it needs a recharge, so we intend to do that every other weekend.
There's plenty of light to lunge and ride - daughter tried it for the first time last week and we could see her quite happily.
