I used my friends arena today for the first time, it rode very deep. I'd like to use it a lot, so how would you stop it riding deep?

Is it literally to deep a surface or is it because it's very dry? Or something else completely?

if its new, it just needs to wear down a bit ours is rubber and sand and was exactly like that initially. I was asked to lunge pickle in it a couple of times just to try and mix it a bit (he has very big feet!)

I 'think' it's been down a couple of years

how much use does it get though, ours took a few months to ride better, but its a RS yard with 40+ horses where horses are ridden in the school for most of the day. It is also levelled every other day and watered every other day

PLEASE be careful! Fly strained his tendon sheath the first time I used my neighbours new school and is still on box rest. If it is deep do not do tight circles etc, its just not worth it until it beds down. Ideally it needs to be raked each time after use, the rain will help it but raking and levelling is the best way to speed it along apparently.

It was sand and tiny chips of rubber? they looked like tiny stones, but surely not?

Was the rubber on top of the sand or mixed in with it?
It was def rubber- not plastic granules?

When the weathers been dry for a while the one I use rode deep so YO added more rubber and its much better now,

I've spoken to the arena owner, it's coarse sand, no rubber, and has been down for about 3 years. For the past year it's been used about once a week, with me and this it will be used about twice a week.

Thanks for the warning moneypit, I'll be careful
