I've just been outside moving some horses around. Moved 2 horses out of one herd and into another herd. They share a fenceline and have known each other for years.
The reason for the move; one herd is made up of lots of yearlings, a 2 year old and 4 mares. My mare Golden has always been herd leader of this herd, and little Cloud is friends with Golden so has always had an easy time in there due to this. Anyhow, a couple of months ago, one of my other mares, Spirit, took over as lead mare. She took with her my big 2 year old, Smokey, and the pair of them ruled the roost - unfairly in my opinion. Anyhow, I let it continue to see if Golden would take back her rightful leadership, but she didn't and both her and Cloud have been starting to look really miserable as the 2 witches have been bossing them about.
So, today I decided that it was time to give my girls a break from all of this nonsense, and I moved Spirit and Smokey out and into the adjoining field with 6 of my geldings. They fitted in perfectly with no problem - I didn't expect there to be any problems mind you. However since moving them Cloud (who was the one bossed around most) has been hankering over them and has spent the whole time looking over the fence and whinnying to them
.
Can't win sometimes eh?
