ok so weve had the post that all he is fit for is meat

but i actually realy like him and he is exactly what im after for my novice partner to ride western whilst out hacking.
so weve established hes over priced what would be a fair price for him ?
and is anyone on here good at haggling

I just looked at that ad before I came on here and read any of these posts. In my opinion he looks lovely, but I do love coloured horses and think Criollos are a great breed. Also I'm into western riding. I'd say he is overpriced and does need a bit more weight on him, but apart from that he looks a super little chap and I hope he finds a lovely home.

Criollos ARE a fantastic breed, but THAT horse isn't one. You might as well say he's a (aside from the colouring) a welsh cob. BUT to OP, by all means go and see the horse, and if he's what you're looking for, then great.

I don't know anything about this debate that's been going on re criticising horses offered for sale BUT here's my fourpennorth....

Criollos are the latest 'bandwagon' and there are some VERY unscrupulous people selling them.
The point to remember, as I'm sure PF will confirm is that in the Argentine they are kept on very poor rations and basically left to fend for themselves...start to pamper them like an English horse and some of the happy hackers that they are being marketed to could find themselves seriously out of their depth.
Imagine a scaled up shetland pony fed like an event horse and you'll get what I mean!
£3,250 is not a lot to pay for a really good, sane hacking horse even in this financial climate, but this poor lad looks weak and poorly put together. There are plenty of good hacking horses on the market, and they might be Criollos - an elderly friend has bought a Criollo for hacking and says it's the most fun horse she's ever had, but she is an experienced rider.
Like purchasing any other horse, it's a matter of looking beyond the hype...
 
What would you pay for an underweight, crossbreed of no verifiable origin? If I was interested in this particular horse then I would place him in the £800 - £1,200 bracket. If you do enquire about him, ask the name of the Criollo dam/sire and if, by some freak, he is actually a registered Criollo, then ask PF to check on his bloodlines.

The same goes for people who are buying alleged Quarter Horse crosses - ASK the name of the QH dam/sire/bloodline and tell me - I can look it up no problem.
