Do sarcoids have a tendancy to grow back bigger?

I clipped my mare and accidentally clipped the sarcoid off. It was about 3mm in size near her front leg chest. Its looks just like a spot with a head (or at least it did do). Was mentioned it could be a wart or a sarcoid when she was vetted (not had her long). So am presuming it is a sarcoid as it cant be anything else. It hadnt grown since I bought her either.

Great what a worry.
 
well it could be gone for good or may start to re appear. if it starts to re appear i would get vet to treat it asap, as much easier to get rid of when small! dont worry, just clean and treat as a minor ailment. and wait and watch!
 
First off don't panic!
Keep any treatment to a minimum, just wash around the wound as gently as possible with hibiscub trying to disturb the actual wound as little as possible. I usually keep an eye on temperaure for a few days so that any infections can be dealt with as quickly as possible (so far no need).
Have a chat with your Vet, then pray!
I know what a worry sarcoids can be - my mare has loads & I've given up counting! I've had a few where the skin has split & a nodular sarcoid come out & so far it's been 1/3 not come back, 1/3 come back about the same & 1/3 come back worse - so if yours is the same there's a 2/3 chance it will be no worse than before.

I put terramycin spray on it tonight but will start washing it with hibiscrub instead. Hopefully it wont be any bigger than before. Luckily its on her chest in between her front legs so no where near the girth.
 
The thing about sarcoids is often they AREN'T. They are warts or odd lumps that pop up then disappear again. If it's anything other than a sarcoid, sensible self help as for an ordinary nick should sort it. If it IS a sarcoid, you could be in trouble since any surgical intervention on a true sarcoid can trigger a growth spurt. Clipping the lump off would count as surgical intervention, albeit accidental. If you think it is a sarcoid, be very careful what you put on it. Any preparations that say they encourage new growth (including tea tree and aloe vera products) should be avoided like the plague. Put crudely, sarcoids are a skin cancer, where cells grow out of control. The last thing you want to do with any cancer is encourage it to grow. I'd watch it like a hawk and if it won't heal properly or oozes continually or is getting bigger or is causing the horse distress, vet.
 
Someone clipping my first horse did that. We only noticed when we saw the blood drip, dripping on the stable floor, poor lad never even flinched. Don't think it makes them grow back more aggresively tbh.

Don't you believe it! I have just finished a course of Liverpool Cream on a HUGE aggressive sarcoid - which started as a small cut which went proud. The vet trimmed it - it went BESERK!

Liverpool Cream treatment zapped it nicely - just crossing fingers for the hole to heal up nicely and not keep growing!
 
I'va had a sarcoid go balistic after a biopsy ( I knew it was a sarcoid before I got the test result it was that fast!) so damaging them certainly can make them more agressive. But as Prof Knottenbelt says - the only predictable thing about sarcoids is that they are unpredictable! So just keep your fingers crossed, be gentle in that area & remember it may not have been a sarcoid at all.
