Now Lavinia has gone, her hubby no longer wants to keep doing the xc and his son (I think) isn't interested either. That would be a massive blow for us in the southwest
It would be a huge loss to everyone in the South West, from those that compete there to those who have lessons.
I would imagine it makes money so perhaps if the rumour is true someone else may lease it as a business venture.
I can imagine the owner would feel disinterested after the loss of his wife, she was such a driving force.
I really hope it isn't true, it is my favourite venue for just about everything - schooling, eventing, you name it. They build such great courses there too - really bold XC which rewards attacking riding whilst giving you a great feeling when you complete. Proper old fashioned tracks.
I hope it isn't. Wasn't LEC saying though that the residential camps are fully booked until October next year? Surely they would have just stopped now rather than take bookings?
I heard the rumour too, someone mentioned it at their May event. Didn't want to believe it so blocked it out . . . till now. Very sad for all of us competitors past and present if it's true.
We used it for our pony club camp in august and they took our booking for next year when we left. Hope they wouldn't have done that if it was going to close.
I will ask Sarah tomorrow as work just down the road. I am not sure I believe this as they are fully booked from Feb till October every week with camps. Andrew Gelding has retired from event organising and he did an awful lot for the place on the horse side but I am pretty sure he is still involved in the farm. Chatter1 asked them the other day why they do not run more ODEs unaff and they said they do not have space in the calendar.
What a loss that would be, love the place and so much has been invested into the course it would be madness to lose it. Hopefully it's just a rumour and they'll get someone in to manage it if need be as surely it must be a great money maker
I really hope thats not true, its a great venue and they always prepare the courses so well. Surely someone will want to take it over if the owners no longer wish to run it??
I asked my farrier about this today and he had not even heard the rumour. Now if something is going on in the local horse-world and even the farriers haven't heard, it must be either the best kept secret in the world, or not true, surely?!!
Here at Stockland Lovell Equestrian we were not a little surprised and dare we say taken aback to learn from Forum on your website that many people believe that Stockland Lovell Equestrian is closing. Nothing could be further from the truth!
Changes have taken place in the management structure with Martin & Mark Hill now playing a very active role in the direction of the company. Andrew Guilding, who together with the late Mrs Lavinia Hill, for many years lead all aspects of Equestrian development at Stockland Lovell, is reducing his commitment but is still maintaining a very proactive role on the farm and in the area. Sarah Tye remains as Equestrian Manager assisted by Lynda Ayre who also continues to manage Stockland Lovell Saddlery with the rest of the team remaining. It is planned that a new post will be created that will include those areas which Andrew Guilding has released with applications being considered at this time ready for the 2010 season.
Complete refurbishment of existing obstacles will be undertaken over the winter months together with further development of new fences both portable and permanent and the topography of the estate.
There is also a full programme of events already in place for 2010. Next years Residential Camping Diary has few available opportunities left for booking and a full diary of Clinics and Training is being finalised and will soon be posted on our website.
