Argh Help!!

I have just bought rubber mattings for both my stables five for each stable they have big stables 18ft by 20ft so i have bought five they dont cover the whole stable but give a decent sized area with one for under there feet by the haylage!

They are 18mm thick and im not sure what bedding to use i dont want to use straw i hate,hate,hate it!! The smell, the weight, the mess!! Arghh! Soo gonna use shavings! Ive started off by first trying Easi-bed putting banks along the two wall the matts are against and then a couple of inches of shaving. The only reason i got a banks is because of the stables being old farm buildings walls arent quite straigh hah! :cool: It is quite absortbent, they just end kicking there poo allover, so was just thinking of little layer which will just get swept out each day??

I just wanted to kind of know which kind of shavings you use? The price? how much you put down with matting? How you found them with EXTREMELY messy horses!! They are out from about 9am till bout 4:30pm (now nights are statying lighter) Yay!! nute ( i know its so many questions!) But pleease help!! before i sell my horses!!! (Just joking!!) :):)

I would never go back to shavings since moving to megazorb. It is 4 x as absorbent and so light and easy to store. The cheapest you can get it is £6.70 a bag and each bag will last the equivalent of one bale of shavings but use quarter the space. Mucking out is MUCH quicker - 5 mins max a stable.
 
We use about a 1/4 bale of shavings on one of the mats, usually in the corner. He is a really messy sod and we have tried allsorts and have ended up doing this, he seems quite happy with it and it isn't costing me a fortune.

Wood pellets are ideal for rubber matting. You don't need to deep litter. Pour a bag in a clean wheelbarrow and spray for 30 seconds with a hose (with a nosle). It fluffs up in around 20 minutes. Put whatever amount you want onto the mats. I find it's easier if you don't keep a deep bed on rubber mats. The only problem with wood pellets is they freeze if it's really cold.
 
We use wood pellets on rubber mats. My mare is gross so i soak a few handfuls of them and sprinkle them on top to soak up the wee, and brush out everyday and then start again. Bag of it is about £4 and lasts a while.

She has no worries with lying down on just the mats as soft as the concrete ground in the summer which they like to lie on.
 
I still like a normal deep bed on top of my matting :D

I use hunter shavings dirty horse only one bale a week to 10 days probably the most expensive shavings I can get around here but the best £8 a bale
