Bear is 5 this year and he's been through 5 saddles so far and he's having another growing spurt! his bum is alot higher than his withers again! He's meant to be a 14.2hh cob but he's over 15hh now!! I wonder how many more saddles I'll get through this year!!! I was looking at pictures of him when I was breaking him in and comparing them to now. He was a little weed! He's like a chunky muscle horse now LOL!! When will he stop growing in height?!!

have you tryed a wintec or bates you can change the gullet instead of the saddle (fantastic invention

Im keeping an eye out for a 2nd hand wintec but I wouldn't buy a new 1 as he wouldn't be in it for long!! and I would lose out on money buying new 1.

Ha Ha!! Im starting to strain myself hitching my leg up to get on! I think maybe if we cut the legs off at the canon bone and stick the hooves back on we'll be ok!
My OH wouldn't be impressed if I get another saddle for a minute! he's only had the one he's got now for 2 1/2 months!!

haha that is a alot of saddles... my horse is on his 4th saddle since we've had him. Had him a year! He's finally muscled up enough to get him a nice leather one though, so the wintec (which i only got at christmas) is for sale.

It's the fact that yours is 5 and obviously still growing that makes me feel suicidal.
Mine is also wearing 6'9" rugs.....what size will she be by the time she's finished?
Someone should have told me that half Shires were large.

Thanks for your post - made me feel soooo good.

Chancer my gypsy cob is rising 4 - bum is nearly 2" higher again - he was supposed to be 14.3 - 15 hands and is now just over 15 hands at the front. Think he is going to end up 15.2 at least.

I resolved the saddle problem by getting a Barefoot treeless. Personally I love the saddle and Chancer can grow away happily. Have used it for six months and just had the physio out and his back is excellent.

Luckily although being just under 5', I love big chunky horses and he does feel small after Cairo our 16.3 clydesdale.

My warmblood mare at 51/2 was just under 16 hands and ended up a very full up 16.3 by time she was 7 and went from looking like a TB to a very chunky girl.

LOL thats reassuring!! The only other thing now is that I cant SJ in the smaller ring as they cant be over 14.2hh and Im too scared to jump any bigger than 2ft 3!!!

Now to worry you. I bought a 15.1 3yo AA mare in October 2005. She actually measured at only just over 15h and I was expecting her to make around 15.3 but she didn't grow at all and I was rather disappointed, although they do say that good things come in small packages. 8 weeks ago we measured her when she came in for the farrier - still no change, no surprise. Last week her rug seemed tight, when I undressed her she's suddenly grown a bum over an inch higher than her wither and she's gone up a rug size. She's six - actual birthday in May though!

my friend had the same problem she brought a cob it was going to grow 14hh this is why she brought being small but it turned out to be 15hh .
