Basically, i bought a 5yro mare (believed to be IDXTB) from a dodgy scenario, so i thought id get her scanned to see if she was chipped!

Turns out she has 2!!!

1 is a foreign chip beginning with 250259 which my researching has lead me to believe is from France..
the other one begins with 9811.. (in the uk they are 981 so its another foreign one)
This is proving to be the problem! i have telephoned EVERY possible microchip company/database in the UK and no 1 recognises the chip haha! i have been on the phone to the manufactures of microchips, you name it THE LOT. And now im at a Dead end

So basically im wondering if anyone has a horse with a similar chip as these two??? Any help would be much appreciated

Its so annoying isnt it!! I brought my mare in simular circumstances and she is chipped - starting 9851 and I too have phoned everyone I can think of and it isnt registered! The only information I could find on it was from the batch that was registered as "Lost chip"..... guess what... I FOUND IT! so I know how annoying it is!! I dont even know my mares proper name!

You would think there would be a way of finding out wouldn’t you.

Sorry cant help but wish you luck in your search.

I asked Petlog to match a horse to a chip and they said they could not because of the Data Protection Act. I pointed out that only covered people not horses and they relented.

If the first chip is French Haras Nationaux will be able to help you. When French vets chip a horse they have to send a copy of the paperwork to HN. They will also be able to tell you if the horse was born in France or imported from another EU state.

HN will either have issued a passport or overstamped an exisiting passport either way they will have entered details of the horses breeding on the database.

My most recent French chip begins 250259

HN are trying to organise things so that it will be possible to identify the country of origin for all chips.

the microchipping systems seems to fall down when the horse is imported/exported and ownership isnt transferred.
I recently purchased a Haflinger her microchip starts 5282 is in the Netherlands.
I called Petlog who informed me they only have details of chips that have already been registered in the UK if they havent theres nothing they can do. They told me I could register her for £15, needed no proof or anything.

same issue, my german warmblood has a netherlands chip

Chipping i think wasnt compulsory in germany when he was over there but then was in ND, or some such. But trying to sort that information out or indeed get his passport changed into my name has taken 2 years of dead ends.

Reading your post again- are you sure of the other number. My UK chips, implanted 18 months ago begin 98512.

You say the background was 'dodgy' - could your horse be a French Trotter? re-chipped in the UK?

have you managed to get it sorted now? 2 years seems an awful long time.

I didnt know what to do with my new horse so ended up emailing the KVTH society in the Netherlands who told me i needed to speak with my country branch. So rang them and had a chat.
They told me to send a copy of the passport and a receipt to say id bought her and when - the thing is, the owner didnt match with the passport as no-one has ever changed ownership. im so glad its been easy. They said theyd sort everything out then send me the application forms on.

I have emailed Haras nationaux, 2 times and still have had no reply. After contacting the manufacturer of the 98 chip they have confirmed that there were 2 batches of this chip. 1 box sent to france & one to Belgium.....so still im no closer really!!

Regarding the chips that are from the UK, 981 chips are English but 9811 chips arnt, you can get chips in england beginning with other numbers too

Im glad its not just me though! Its more than likely shes sell francais or trotter-but i cant see that! ARGH the search goes on
