So annoyed....! :mad::mad:
We have no straw or hay on our yard atm...so we're having to travel and buy it in - and its NOT cheap.
We've had 3 or 4 bales of hay stolen over a week. Absolutely fuming. Kellys in all the time bar an hour a day now so she needs the hay and the other horse doesn't have that much as she's out a lot. There is NO way we've used 10 bales in a week!!
Where our pallet is, is quite secluded so easy for people to nab a bale on their way past but there is always people about, so why!:confused:
I hate to think we're paying 3.75 a bale to feed other peoples bloody horses 'cause they're too lazy to go and buy it themselves.
We've just had another lot of straw delivered from another farm and having to store some in the wagon - which isn't ideal, it makes the wagon a mess, its a long way to go for a few leaves to top a bed up with and we shouldn't have to do it!

People do not give a dam anymore about there fellow man, this country is not the same as it was.
Apart from that guess how much I paid for 1 bale of hay yesterday.
I have 2 Miniature horses if I have a big horse I would be hard pressed to feed it.
I can not beleive I paid the price.
Why are people greedy,it is so on real the price of things thease days.Sorry to have kidnapped your post but when I saw what you paid for hay,it got me a tad mad,not your fault.
Who ever nicked your hay do the right thing and replace it,you weazel.

Go on...a fiver maybe?
I think 3.75 is unreal compared to the 2.50 we were paying only last summer!!!!!! Massive shortage of straw and hay I think, and the weather does not help!

People who steal are real scumbags - we work hard for what we have. I'm feeling especially hard done by - someone just sold me a clocked lorry - might as well helped himself to £2000 out of my bank!!

Its gutting isn't it! I don't understand some people.
Its not even so much the bales going missing, its more that we have a horse whos just started medication for Cushings and is in a lot, so she needs the hay (and more so, she can't even have the fresh cut hay when we get some on our yard! so any hay we order now has to last) and a decent bed for her feet, AND her owner is shelling out a fortune for her meds too, so we really don't need some lowlife stealing the bales we've paid for!

Well hay is such a valuable commodity now I've kept mine under lock and key all this winter for the first time - with todays prices I'm not surprised it goes 'missing'.

Yeah that's where ours is going when we get our next lot! Its such a pain though we shouldn't have to and its sad that we do :(

£8 I paid why because that is all they had they called it rabbit hay.What.
Where have all the days gone when I could get it for £1 .
£8 I am still in shock

I really feel for you - last yard I was at my feed was getting stolen, it went down by half in 24 hours at the worst point - I left an unmarked envelope in the feed bin that inside was covered in invisible uv paint type stuff over it - the message said "dear scum bag - I will catch you and take something of yours to the same amount of roughly 30kg of feed that you have stolen many thanks. Got a uv light on all the Livery stable doors etc and bingo! Found them. Just calmly went up to girl and told her she owed me 20 quid for the food she had taken- she went quiet. I said I wanted it asap or I would take the clothes off her back in compensation if I had to or call police. I got twenty quid. I never said a word to anyone on yard but just let everyone know that this uv paint is the way to go, I left yard in end for other reasons but the stealing stopped. Was really bad - people who steal are a disgrace IMO.

Good idea......maybe we will try the same...last year the thieving scumbags even kindly left their scissors behind that they'd used to cut the bales apart with! We were going to put the scissors up with a note saying "found, whose are they?" but then decided as they are quite expensive yard scissors they were probably worth more than half a bale of straw!
And jezabell, 8 pounds!! Good God...! I thought nearly 4 quid was bad!

Lol - just put a note on your hay saying "thief you left your scissors stealing my hay ask me for them back" it can shock people sometimes - knowing that you know someone is robbing. Stealing is just the worst thing x

We are a private stud and a such I dont take liveries. However one local to me begged me to take her TB on livery. Never again. She made a mini heston of haylage last ALL winter ! Yep, she was helping herself to mine. Must of thought I was stupid. After I confronted her and told her that I was charging her £1.75 a day she decided to move! I thought that was reasonable for all it could eat? We were paying £32 for a bale of top quality haylage (delivered) and £3 per small top quality hay.
When she left (without notice) she even thieved the tie rings from the stable and told the farrier she had left the shoeing money with me! Lying C*W

we pay £9.50 here and it isnt good quality either but you have to feed your horses :( but we had that happen at a previous yard and she would take feed too but we all knew who it was and she would take from everyone then try and pin it on someone else annoys me soo much... luckly im on a yard in the middle of nowhere with only one other person so i think i would know who it is if anything went missing! :)

Oh my god, some people beggar belief don't they?
I don't blame you for not taking liveries - our yard's quite big, and tbh most people are very good - I wouldn't mind but if someone came to us and asked if they could borrow a bale in return for one next time it was delivered, we'd happily say yeah fine! But they have to go and thieve...I'll never forget going down one time and finding someone in our feed bin, happily filling their horses buckets up with our feed. The feed was hidden after that needless to say.

You'll not believe this one. A friend of mines YO was charging £50 for a round bale of hay and we could get it for £35 so my yo kindly drove to her yard one day and dropped her a bale off outside her field gate. Her yo promptly sold it to someone knowing exactly who's it was!

Oh my god...that's awful!!
Our yard isn't bad I have to admit - like today, the straw turned up early so we all mucked in and unloaded people's straw for them so they didn't lose what they'd paid for. Its just this stealing that winds us up, we need that hay theres no two ways round it!
