YO has gone away for 10 days. 5 1/2 days in and

we have

horse with thrush and a mysterious skin complaint that was scratching until it bled

being treated with purple spray in hooves and steroid cream on rash

horse that slipped, fell and did its suspensory ligament in

a foal that won't be caught

a horse that has been kicked in the field tonight, has 11 kick marks and a nasty one inside its back leg. Have fed it bute and cold hosed, washed with hibiscrub

I need wine

I've used (and don't quote me in case I've got words mixed up) hydrogen peroxide for thrush.

Foalie will be caught when cold and wet enough

You do indeed need some form of comforting beverage, I like the idea of Mrs M's hot choccy, but a good slug of brandy in it wouldn't go amiss under the circumstances!

I hope that the next 4 1/2 days are considerably less stressy for you.

foal is only about 7 weeks old
have resorting to foal following Mum in from the field!

Kicked horse is bellowing it's head off in the stable wanting to go back to the horse that kicked it

I'm not sure whether to sedate it or me

It always happens, but, just to make you feel better...my son,(who is responsible and experienced with horses btw) rang me in ITALY to tell me that one of ours had a cut on his eye!!!

Imagine the panic that followed..talking of flights home, vet etc,...only to be told "Oh, it's only a scrape, and it's healed now!!!"

I think you need a stiff drink and a triage system!!!

it's her only 10 days holiday in a year

I've got a permanent pocket full of pony nuts and bute (for bribing foal and drugging everything else) and a purple tinge to my arm and hands. I won't mention the bruised ribs, cut knee and hand due to badly behaved horse

If its any help it is exactly the same here when YO goes away!!

Apart from the horses I have 2 dogs, 4 cats, 3 chooks, 1 duck and 200 sheep to keep my eye on - trust me I know how quickly carnage can decend!!

BTW - agree with the others - use peroxide on the thrush.

yes!! except the one that was kicked was box walking, shaking etc so have had to move her to another stable where she seems more settled. I keep saying oh well, another day tomorrow but each time I say it s*it happens!

ha! I've smoked about 20 fags, had a horlicks and washed the purple spray/dermoline/pony nuts off me

Just got to cold hose it again tomorrow but it kicks like stink. I prefer to blast it from a distance as it's as quick with its front legs as its back legs!
