Arghh - BE has sent me an email about my horses name!

Get it changed !! Grey horses are excluded by many insurance companies for melanomas, but coloureds aren't.
Also I have to admit I would be seriously querying a coloured horse (even if blue & white) if it said grey on the passport !!

No it's fine as i know the person who imported and sold him to me, and who did the passport and it's all fine. I know quite a few people who don't have very accurate passport descriptions, it's just annoying!

Luckily there are no exclusions on his insurance but i will get round to changing it just incase i think.

QR - all this passport name and registered name stuff is SUPPOSED to stop people running ringers / several different similar-looking babies under one name so that any mistakes they make don't show up on their "real" records later. IT DOESN'T!!! I know this with absolute, 100% certainty!! All it does do, is make it an expensive, pain in the backside for ordinary, law-abiding people trying to enjoy their already expensive hobby!!! gggrrrrrrrr!!!!!

Have not had an email back from Dreamworks yet, however BE emailed me back saying that I would need to get his passport name changed if Dreamworks don't agree! I hope they do agree!

That's all very well if the Passport Issuing Authority will let you change the name - in many cases they won't. For example, my mare is registered with Sport Horse GB and I enquired about adding the word 'Primitive' to her stable name (which is all that's on her passport) so that her breeding was reflected and they said no!

So if Dreamworks say no and the PIA say no - you're going to be in a catch 22!

Oh God, this is all one big annoyance that I could do without. My first BE is due in early february, so what am I going to do?

Jsut chose another name as a temporary measure & get your vet to sign & stamp an "Also known as" letter. You will be fine, so don't worry about it.

Just email back and point out that 'shrek' means 'fear or terror' when translated in to English. You can not patent a word of a language.

Furthermore, as dreamworks based the film on William Steig's 1990 fairy tale picture book entitled `Shrek', you doubt that dreamworks would have a leg to stand on if they could indeed grant permission!

Alternatively, you could call him 'William Steig'???????!!
