I can't motivate myself to ride in this weather and to be honest I think my horse would rather be vegging in field than working. Is anyone else not riding because of the heat?

I cant ride in this heat! I get hot enough when its not already 23/24 degrees lol! Especially as I will NOT ride without my bp either!

My girl has a scabby bit on her back at the moment which im letting heal before riding so thats another reason why im not

I hate it too, weve been making sure we are out for no later than 9am and its been fine.
We've got a nice breeze today though.

I tend to ride either stupidly early or in the evening at this time of year. Mine need to work so they can enjoy the summer grass, but have to compromise with hacking out to our breezy hills as our grass school is rock hard right now.

I hate this heat but fortunate I can still ride (no current injuries!!) I was supposed to have my lesson at 4.15 pm yesterday but instructor had a cancellation so could I do 2.30!!! It was bloody hot, but forgot about the heat once we got going. Hosed the horse and me off afterwards!I usually ride at 5am before work, its lovely then, and at weekends go out at 7am.

I've been riding early in the morning, well, 7am. Its absolutely beautiful at this time of the day. The birds are in full voice, and sun is out, but without the heat, and blissfully no flies, midges etc. and especially where i live, hardly any traffic.

God I love it when it's like this. Up to about thirty and I'm happy as a pig in the proverbial riding in the sun. Over that and I try and keep it to early mornings/evenings :)

Bring it on I say!!!

Yeah I rode today and it was really hot. Got to the stables at 9 and I was hot just by grooming the dirty b*gger!! And there was zero breeze! However had a lovely hack and hosed him down after :)

Me and the horse used to work in 40 degrees so I won't be letting 20 degrees stop us.
I'll just make sure he gets a few breaks in walk to cool off a bit, hose him down when we're done and give electrolytes to replace salts

Planned to do some work with Teddy this morning, by 10am he was sweating just standing still, and so was I so we bathed him instead. His first ever bath, my mum lives just up the lane from my field so took him up to hers so I could use her hosepipe.

Haha! I live in a virtual desert! The summer temperatures here mean we ride by moonlight in August :D

May to October we only ride after 7pm really, like blood_magik we are used to temperatures well into the high 30s/low 40s.

It's like this 'hard ground' thing...my horses live and work on rock, sand and gravel. Barefoot and good tendon boots and we have never had an issue - even jumping in the rather dusty, but rock hard, 'sand' arena.

Hugo was quite sweaty when I got there this morning as he had been used in a lesson first thing, so I just left him in the (cool) barn to chilax for a bit before we went out. We had a long hack (just walk and a bit of trot), mostly in the shade of trees in the woods. It was glorious and neither Hugo, or his mate LovelyBob, were sweating too much by the time we got back. The flies weren't too bad, either.

Nevertheless, we gave them both a rinse down before we turned them out. I wanted to wash him anyway as I am doing the 'Mega-Tek' thing on his punk rocker mane and needed to remove the build-up! ;)

Although we had some rumbles of thunder earlier and the skies went black, we've not had rain yet and it's still over 20. I am going up early tomorrow, though.

Not to worry, though - it will all be over by Tuesday, apparently! :(

I like to ride about 0700. The beauty is no heat, no flies, quiet roads and very few dog walkers on the bridle paths, so going for a short blast is possible. Charlie doesnt really get too sweaty and is easy to cool down afterwards. Riding at this time also sets you up for the day!

23/24C Nice, average. Wait til the humidex jacks it up to the mid 30's that's when it gets to be a sod.

We are scrabbling around at about 16C, pathetic. But...it isn't raining so can't complain really.

Enjoy your summer.
