Now that newbee Snoopy is coming on nicely in all his work I am now looking into registering him with BSJA and BE.
However, nothing is EVER simple. Because hes an Import I cant just automatically register on line.
With the BSJA he will automatcially have £50 put on his card, even tho hes never jumped abroad *and only on a ticket* here.
For BE he will be classed as a Grade 1 horse which costs the same as an Advanced competing horse WHY!!!! ARGHHHHHH

Now off to telephoned said organisations to find out what the hell is going on.

see Piaffe had this prob with V when registering him with BD, because she registered him when he was 5 he automatically gets 35BD points, which i think is totally unfair.....

Now i was very lucky in that Archie was registered by his previous owner as a 4yr old so he had no points, however if she hadnt registered him and i had done it when i brought him (at 5) then he wouldve got 35 points too. She also never competed him so he hadnt got any points... (he has 3 now tho!)

Used to work for BE so can help there. If you can get a print out or letter from the national federation in the country of origin (obviously saying he has no form!!) they will register him as grade 4. Where is he from? Some countries are more cooperative than others for sending a printout!

Panic not. Both BSJA and BE will contact the appropriate controling body from the country he originated.
BE just took my word that Ed had only showjumped prior to import.

OMG! So if i then decided to register snoop with BD I he would get 35 points!

thats unbelievable

Hi Holly, thank you, the horse was imported last June he was just 4 years old and bearly broken. I have his papers, passport and vet certificate but not to hand...should i wait until i have them before ringing them?

yeah, if you can send them a copy of those saying he was 4 and therefore too young you should be ok I'd have thought. I never used to make them ring federations unless they were at least 5!

I reg Olympic, via a ticket last year at 10 for BE and they never said a word about him being imported. So maybe buy a ticket so he's on their database and then fully reg him?

i imported two of my horses from hungary - and they are both competing BSJA with nothing on their card - all you have to do is contact BSJA find out that countries governing body (for jumping etc) and make sure they have no record - then have them fax a confirmation letter to you which you can forward to the bsja

With BD, you can have an assessment if you like if you do agree with having 35 points slapped on him but its bloody expensive. Hence the reason I didnt bother.

Rant over....peace restored.
Just spoken to both organisations...

BE have said i can register him on line, just giving me instructions on how to by pass everything thats not required and he will go down as Grade 4 YAY

Next up BSJA...

Because I can prove he was 4 when he was imported (says so on all his certificates etc) then he will go down with NO Winnings YAY

Phew, something thats gonna go right for one WOO HOO.

Oz is 5 and imported, so he had the 35 points put on by BD.
Not that we'll be adding to that tally any time soon as he is still bloody lame.
Glad you got it sorted for Snoops.

x

Yep, rotten evil (tiny) splint. I thought he was fine as he was trotting (well, passaging) in the field without a problem but when I got on him he was lame! So back to resting and icing. Annoying cause the splint is cold and non-reactive. I think I might have to get it scanned. Sigh.

How exciting for you! Snoops ready for BSJA and BE! fun fun fun.

Oh poor lad.
Snoops is hard and non responsive too. Just keep hosing it after being on the walker and arena work.
Mind you, hes had plenty of rest recently (confided to stables since Wednesday) so Im hoping it will stay that way....

HAHA well i can hardly say we are ready for BE, havent even done a dressage test yet or going xc schooling

Planning to go end of Feb xc tho and must find a couple of unaffil dressages to make sure everything is hunky dorey then i can get entering WOO HOO

No, thats not right! You just need to prove the horse has never jumped abroad before being imported which I believe is just a case of getting in touch with the relevent countrys jumping assocation and getting them to write a letter (or speak to the BSJA) to confirm the horse has never been reg with them.

The BSJA kicked up a right fuss when I tried to reg my imported horse (who was only a 3yo on arrival here so he couldnt even have jumped anyway!). They said Id have to contact the SJ people however I tried and of course they didnt speak any English....... Eventually I called BSJA back and said it was ridiculous and they sorted it all out for me!! It all depends who you speak to in the BSJA...... I registered him with £0 winnings.

BE wise, to be honest I had no problems whatsoever. I just filled out the forms as usual - I had said he was imported but they never moaned and registered him as usual at usual entry level grade.

I have had a few imported horses and have never had them credited with points etc.... I would be surprised if it was a problem.
The only horse which was given points was my dressage horse who had been round a 2 star, she was given 2 be points!

He wouldn't have, it is done on the age of the horse when it is imported so his age when being registered / when she sold him on to you is irrelevant.

This importing horses and them being giving points because of their age is one reason why you should always check its printout before buying. You could go buy a Grade A without it ever jumping a class, I bet some people try it on. Or a dressage horse with 35 points in very few outings - yes none!

So always check and see what the horse has actually done

My mare was imported when she was a four year old but apparently she was still awarded 35 points when I registered her (she was then 5) as they take it from 1st Jan. Peed me off but I got no-where even though I disputed it quite a few times.

i disagree, as i didnt have proof of his import date, so had she not registered him with BD when she first had him imported then i wouldve had 35 points smacked on him when i registered him.

And trust me, thats correct, i spent ages talking to a very nice lady at BD headoffice about it.
