I am on to 5th saddle and counting for my pony whom I have owned for 14 months now! I have tried treeless which she liked but I had a crashing fall on one and cant get on from the ground and hack in an area where some of the riders gates require some one on the ground with good diy skills to open! I bought a HM flexi which she loved and her back muscles filled out but it started to move really forward resulting in my having to get of and work going down hills . I then bought a working hunter saddle fitted by the local saddler which was fine for a few months however she had now lost weight and muscle and it moves forward. Im a but cross as it was sold as a 16.5inch saddle but I measured it recently and its 17.5 inchs and pony is only 13.3HH! The main problem is she is a fell but not mega wide but if I talk to saddlers they instantly go ' oh I have lots of x wide saddles that will fit' SHE ISNT BLOODY X WIDE, she has a very very forward girth groove as well. Her current saddle has point and balance straps but she now has a nice indent exactly where the points of the saddle sit. I am at my wits ends. Don't know if to go treeless, treed, flexi saddle or what. My last horse had his long distance career ruined by a badly fitting saddle that caused major muscle damage so I am very conscious of what damage this can cause.
