Arghhh...Another set back for poor Boo

This poor horse keeps doing the most silly things to himself, just as we are finally managing to get somewhere with him!

He came in from the field last night with a gash to his near fore pastern area above the heels, I cleaned it up, had a good poke and put on some intrasite gel. Asked mum to lunge him (I'm at work and she can't ride him) so she dutifully did, and what does he do? Strikes into himself and cuts a main vein in his gash

So it's gushing with blood and she has to walk him back through the village, leaving a bloody trail behind them

Anyway, called vet, and he had to nerve block him, sedate him and staple his gash, poor little lamb. He was really enjoying working and getting on so well.

So far he has cracked his jaw and had an operation on it, had a full body scan and found pedal bone rotation, which he is being treated for and now this, all in the space of a year!

Think I need to purchase a very big roll of cotton wool

You definately need an extra large roll of cotton wool, and a padded cell to stable him in

Seriously tho, thats such bad luck

Aww, poor Boo!! Least it is at the end of the eventing season....still a pain though!! Fingers crossed heals quickly....

Try bubble wrap giant sized..

A friend has bought a horse who seems devil bent on killing herself, and has a similar tale of woe to you. Lat week it managed to injure it's face badly whilst one of it's other injuries was being treated by the vet!!!!!
Commiserations...

We have an accident prone one like that and he is the sweetest.If he gets a cut it infects, if he gets a bang it sweels. He gets into trouble in a field with post and rail fencing with electric fence on inside and one friend ,who he torments.
We don't have him insured because we bought him as a foal and didn't bother then when we had problems we enquired and they put exclusions on and it was twice as dear as any horse, so we just grin and bear it. He is talented though.

my horse has had some very near self inflicted misses!! as he has been VERY lucky and avoided doing any serious damage to himself he has come up with the conclusion that he is invinsible! lol
