i was out for a hack on buster 2 day and he is not the greatest on hacks at the best of times but i put it dwn to him being very fit however today he had good reason to be spooky!

on this particular day i was going down one of the main tracks on the heath only to find it completley blocked of by a van and people cutting down gorse (that was anything but overgrown!) and then rather than taking it away and disposing of it out of the way they put up a huge fire in the middle of the track and burnt it!! i had to turn back, there was no way buster would go past it even if there was room .... any1 hu tries to go past will most certainly get burnt!!!

i find this totally inconsiderate and irresponsible. not only are they cutting back heath that does not need cutting back they are burning it at a time when the schools r breaking up an young children will start hacking out alot. im all for heath management to keep it open and usable but i feel that this is just ridicolous!! sorry to rant but does any1 else think im over reacting!?!?!?!?!?

They are right to cut back the gorse. If it is not serverely controled there will be no heath in a few years. It is far more cost and time effective to get rid of the gorse when there is not much of it rather than wait till there is an infestation. Gorse is a hazard for grazing animals, they loose eyes beacuse of it, and sheep die if they get stuck in it... like velcro.

As for bonfires and such acctivity, I would expect a horse to cope with them... goes back to the old adage, don't take a horse out unless you know it can cope with everything it is likely to come across and worse, de-sensetise at home as part of normal schooling. Sorry, but rather than being cross with people going about perfectly normal things I would be looking at ways to improve my horse.

as i said im all for managing the heath and my horse is more than used to bonfires. theres 1 in one of the fields right next to him during the day burning as i type but this fire was huge!!!

As far as the timing goes these things happen but I do think they were wrong to put it on the track, thats inconsiderate for everyone, not just riders

Yorkshire Lass - surely you can't blame the OP for saying that there wasn't room to get past, thats not a schooling issue, just simple practicalities. We had a similar problem with fly tipping by some gypsies on a bridleway near us. Yes Daisy isn't great with unexpected objects but that wasn't the problem, the rubbish blocked the entire path and you physically couldn't get past.
