arghhhh make sme so angry

Makes me really mad - one of my old boys is 35 and I'd never do that to him. Only wish I could offer the poor old lady a home, but I've no room for another.

Message her and clearly explain that she needs to watch this weeks watchdog on i player and realise she's fueling these sort of dealers!!!

Then tell her to cough up £150 and have the poor thing pts at home!!!!!

We re-homed a 20 year old from a lifelong home, they couldn't face the trauma of the end approaching...

They did however, pay towards his keep in winter and insist on picking up the bill when the vet diagnosed heart failure, and they had his ashes back to scatter in their orchard. :)

I've a field full of oldies now, apart from the pony who is going to be my riding pony this summer, but I'd love a big one to compete again. Can't afford it though with 3 OAP's and all their wants and needs to take care of! 2 of them are still hacked but no jumping anymore....:(

We will be 'doing the deed' at home when the time comes, it's as much as we can offer them, for what they have given us....

Oh, I can pick OH's horse sometimes, but only when he's not got him!

We got Misty at 23 or so (owners thought she was 17, I traced an old owner) and promised owners she had a home for life with us.

She died 18 months ago, at the age of 35.

No matter what had happened, she was going to end her days with me, there was no way I was letting her go anywhere else.

Good think you didn't link the advert, or I'd currently be on the phone to them giving them a verbal bashing.

I know what you mean. Theres one on a FB group doing the rounds at the moment for a 25yr old partially blind horse who looses loads of condition in winter! They did mention they would PTS at the end of autumn if they cant find a home, but there are very few people who will want an old, blind horse who cant keep weight on, as a field ornament :(

It's so sad that some people can't do their oldies a final kindness and PTS at home, instead of passing them on to an unknown future. It wouldn't even cost a significant amount of money (the hunt pts and take them away for next to nothing here) but it means the earth to ensure your old friend passes peacefully. There are many fates worse than death
:( :( :(

Makes me angry as well. All that devotion and commitment from an animal and you cant do the right thing by them when they are in there twilight years and deserve better!

Found an ad on PreLoved for an old schoolie the other day . . . ad read "school doesn't have enough work for him . . . " . . . made me ill. Owners and RS should do the brave thing.

I've a field full of oldies now said:
Dragonslayer I know exactly how you feel. My oldies are all so dear to me and only one is rideable for short hacks only, and then I have to be very careful with him. I figure that having had my fun with them over the years a gentle caring environment in their elderly years is my way of paying them back a little for the good times we had when they were younger.

Good lord :( that would be like me giving my Annie away for free! She's 15 now. Not going to happen! She's with me forever. She's cost us more than we ever could have imagined, but she's our dog and one of the family for good!

Link posted, dont know if it will work

Thanks for posting. He looks fabulous and obviously very well cared for/much loved. If I had a huge unearned income and lots of land...

The was an ex racer who’d won loads on preloved the other day. Going from the add he was ‘free to a good home’ within 20 mins of the vet saying he’d only be a light hack. The owner seemed to think someone would want to have him for the bragging rights one gets by owning a champion racehorse.

OMG that wasn't the one i saw !!!!, there are so many, how can people think they are doing the right thing by giving them away and at such an old age as well. if only they knew what the consequences could be :-(
The one i saw, she had owned him for 15 years!!! speechless

It seems in this day and age no one has any emotional attachment to horses they have had for years, its very sad I wouldnt be able to sleep at night not knowing where my beloved horse ended up, I would rather have an old horse pts than pass it on to a unknown fate.
