I am so beyond stressed at the moment. This bloody snow needs to go away.

Anyone who has seen my recent threads will know I am planning to move my Horse, because she is very unhappy at this yard. I can't turn her out because she goes loopy and tries to escape. With the ground like it is, I can't risk that. So she stays in with adlib hay, the Horse next door is always in so she has company. I turn her out in the meange for 40 mins in the morn and in evening 20 minutes and then an inhand walk. However the yard owner won't grit the yard and now its like an ice rink. I was unable to get Ruby out of her stable at all yesterday (I was unaware Yard owner wouldn't grit, otherwise I wouldv'e done it myself!) I felt so guilty :(. Today I managed too, but the surface was so hard in the school I couldn't let her loose. So I spent 20 minutes just walking her around it (wish I couldv'e done longer but I had to get to work)

I've hired a lorry for tomorrow and my dad has booked the day off work so his van is free to help me move everything over. Butttt it has just started snowing!!! If I can't move this weekend, it means another week of Ruby being stuck in. Shes getting stiff and shes started coughing again. However she is mostly happy in herself. If she goes out, Whilst her medical probs get better, she is very unhappy and will try to get out. Last weekend, she got out and got kicked.

I just hope the snow isn't too bad and the lorry will still be able to get us! the other yard are turning out, so she can go out when she gets there!

I'm sitting here at work, looking out the window and wanting to cry.

Think you'll just have to wait and see for this one, but I'll cross fingers for you. In some ways, it might be better if you wait, as if conditions are treacherous in the new fields, you don't want horses charging around. Best of luck, whatever. Moving horses is stressful enough, without snow!

it is a complete pain luckily i have turn out for day time and yard conditions are good but no riding etc etc boring boring boring snow driving is crap crap crap etc etc etc rant rant rant
Things will pick up and once you get moved I am sure she will be much happier and you will be able to relax a bit more

Stay strong

Oh no :( I feel for you. The weather forcast is not good. If you do get stuck there for longer, can you ask the YO if you can grit a path to the school yourself? Why on earth wouldn't they want to put grit down? Seems a sensible thing to do in my opinion??!!

What a tough situation to be in, think positive though, with it snowing they will be out gritting and ploughing the roads so by tomorrow the roads should be ok

Do you have any other options?

Ie: Call the transporter and see if they could nip over and move her now before the snow gets going? Move your stuff as planned tomorrow

How far are you moving her?

We now have mucked out onto the yard to create a path. But she will still have to make do with 40 minutes turnout per day. I just hate seeing her coped up like this. I don't expect too much running around. Its her old yard with old friends. So hopefully it will be more of a "Oh I know you" meeting! lol. But of course it may be completly different.

It will be a 20 minute journey.

I have been in the same situation before, I got so stressed that I couldn't wait one more day so I walked my mare to the new yard. Because the snow was bad there was no traffic on the road and was lovely soft going, it took me an hour to walk 6/7 miles but it was worth it just to not be so bloody stressed.

Good luck with it all, I hope it goes as planned tomorrow:)

I think it would take me about 3 hours :o

Plus because shes so wound up she is being a right handful so wouldn't want to risk walking her. I walked her around the school this morning and she reared twice! :o its so unlike her!

Its actually a nice yard where I am, but just not suited for her!

Oh such a shame :( I'm sorry your there another week but keep thinking its only another few days always best to be safe I do hope the week goes ok for you and ruby
Won't be long my sweet hang on in there bit more

I'm trying. But its horrible seeing your Horse stressed when you can't do a thing to help. I went to the other yard today and layed a bed. Just incase I had a chance to move her one evening.

At least you know it will only be a week, I know tomorrow in our neck of the woods there should just be flurries of snow could you not take her tomorrow? If not it might be all gone mid week so you could go then one evening, where are you in Essex?

So much for the weather forecast, I live in Hertfordshire now and its been snowing all day, where are you stabled at Harolds park farm? I shouldnt thunk your going to move today if its anything like it is here.

Sorry to hear laurenbay. For what its worth mine was stabled for almost 3 weeks straight (with vet supervision) after she jumped fences and gates to escape a person and headed to main road.
I spent every night in tears and still feel guilty... But it was so good to see her get out the other end of it and is a completely different horse now - so worth it. Just stepping off the lorry she was changed and relaxed.

It took me far longer to get over it than her, keep your chin up for her so she has you happy and relaxed when she needs you and just think of how good it will be when moved.

Thanks. We are only allowed 15 minute turnout in the school, you can have longer if there are no others waiting to go out. I went up at a really unsoicable time earlier and I sat in my car and read a book whilst she was in the school. I managed to give her an hour and 20 minutes before someone came. Tonight she had 30 minutes (someone came and wanted to put theirs out). I packed all my stuff, so really just waiting til the weather has improved. No i'm not at Harolds Park Farm. I am moving near there though.

Her new stable looks so inviting too!

Is it because of the snow the livery yard your at will not let you turn out? Where I used to work would shut the fields if to wet or icy and never open in the snow, yo wouldnt let you grit the yard either so was like an ice rink, I think she just got pleasure in seeing everyone suffer, hope you manage to get there soon.

The track leading to the fields is dangerous. It got so churned up, now its frozen over its very rutted. Very hard to walk on and sometimes the ice breaks. I had to go up to my field to collect my water bucket. I wouldn't risk walking a Horse up there. Plus she isn't settled in the field and just runs around and then gets out.

Aww I really feel for you. I had to move my recently purchased youngster and he absolutely hated the yard I went to. It was the most stressful fortnight of my life. When I managed to move him he just walked off the trailer and instantly relaxed. I am sure it will be the same for you guys when you get to move. Hang on in there, a week may feel like a lifetime at the mo but nothing stays the same forever xx

Thank you. I feel so guilty as I moved her from somewhere she was happy. She was such a laid back girl, I assumed she would be the same anywhere. She was fine there in the summer. But as soon as they all got seperated into individual turnout and moved to the fields further away she has completly changed. Shes a different Horse. Shes so loopy and a handful. I know all Horses are a bit more fresher in the winter months. But she is the complete opposite from what I know. Usually she gets excited going out and never hangs near the gate. Now she drags her feet going out, goes loopy and waits near gate (that is if she hasn't jumped out or run through it!)

We are now on day 11 of no turnout. I feel like the worst owner in the world. I went home yesterday and got so upset I cried :o

Shes doing ok, her cough is back and shes very stiff in the mornings, but she soon walks that off. She does refuse to go back in her stable now though, the only way I can get her in is to give her a small feed. She isn't fussed about the hay, she would rather stay outside. I resorted to backing her in a couple of times too when even feed hasn't worked. I feel so bad for her.

And is has just started snowing again :mad::mad:

Oh I am really sorry- I really get it. Chin up- thawing today and it wont last.
My horse had similiar problems but not as bad when due to lameness he was in a pen on his own but soon settled back to being easy to handle when returned to the field.

I'm in the same situation as you. No turnout, we can't get down to the menage as its just a sheet of ice. Its so stressfull but the weekend its meant to rain (Sunday) I never thought I'd look forward to rain so much. I'm trying to find a new yard but its so hard in this area, no one has decent turnout. Don't get upset this will pass and you will be in your new yard in no time. Good luck.

Thank you. Luckily I can get her in the menage now. But we are only allowed to do that for 15 minutes. Unless you go an an unsociable time when everyone has gone. Which is what I'm doing tonight. Usually I go straight from work and get there for 6. Then we have a 15 min slot. I am thinking of going up at 7.30 instead and that way she can have an hour or so out (i will sit in my car)

I'm waiting to move too, and also with pretty much no turnout (only 2 days per week maximum) which has been going on for about a month or six weeks.

The snow doesn't seem to be shifting - some roads are absolutely fine and some are like sheets of ice, and we've also got more snow forecast on Friday (I'm probably not that far from you). My horse is coping OK, but he is quite stroppy at the moment which I can't blame him. Can't even ride either! He was last schooled on 14th December and school has either been completely flooded, frozen or covered in snow since. I feel so sorry for him, especially when the others do go out as he can see them in the fields from his stable (talk about rubbing it in!)

Mine's been in 12 days now, 3 of those were to accomodate bad mud fever scabs and then the dratted ice followed by snow came. Others just been in 8 days, but finally thawing here quicker every day - like you we had a sheet ice of car park to get across to field so we couldn't risk it. I'm hoping tomorrow they will go out, 11 geldings... so will be explosive...typically mine is being shod tomorrow AM so will have to stay in til that's happened. He will be in a right state if they all charge about as his stable overlooks field. We have coped with walking round and round the stable block when the path that had been cleared came free of the new ice each day. He's stiff though in hocks I can tell. Field was a bog before and will be even bigger bog now with all the melting that will take place.
