well wot a cr**py day .

dressage warmed up and she was lovely...really really lovely...although as soon as took her up to the tope end of the colecting ring near the arenas it was so windy she became really really tense and wasnt at her best in the test.
i can honestly say the standard was relaly high i was looking around the collecting rind and felt very depressed thinking that i didnt havea chance. the girl who went in before me went really really well and i had in fact been oohing and ahhring over that horse when it was warming up sayng how lovely it was hehe
anyway it ended up thast i had actually scored 31 which i was pleased with and is the best BE score to date so far and a nice mark to start the year on.....and that meant i was joint 5th with the other marks being a 27. somehting and acouple of 29 and 30.somethings so i was pleased as i think that there were about 40 in my section. also pleased as i thought it was a terrible test and i know she can do better so somehting else to work to!!

my sj was pretty close so i quickly changed saddle flaps etc and warmed up and she felt great really pinging!!

went in and it al went down hill...no way am i riding her in a gag again..i was told she wd get used to it after the first couple of times but NO WAY she hated it.....i was compulsery retired as i had a diabolical round with cat leaps etc and tbh i really dont know how i stayed on...anyway back to the drawing board on that...i was so completely humilated and upset and cried

i have worked and worked on her sj and although the bit is partly to blame sj is really not a strong point and i feel she needs intesnive work on it..or somehting-really dont know

Lovely pics - even if she does look a bit up for it! Sorry it didnt go your way, at least its an experienced gained & you can save her for another day!

Oh no

TBH the pics do not look bad at all, remind me of a rather hairy round I once had on B

Pick yourself up, dust yourself down, smile and remember we do it for fun (honestly, we do!)

the main roblem with the sj topday was because of the bit as she fought it with her her head chucked in the air in between every fence then i got akward jumps over most.

i am really needing to get the sj cracked and could do with weekly sessions as well as say a round of sj every weekend for a short stint...but seems very unlikely......we shal see...need to sit down and have a think.

the piccys do work furthur down ...but if yu cant see them then i dont know why :S i was in PN G-

nop it doesnt....any particular reason why it was interesting?

i was in fact (and i know they are pushed for time) a bit annoyed that i only got 2 comments on my whole dressage sheet..i mean how do i improve when i get no conmstructive critisism?

I think the main thing is not to worry about 'what other people think'. Just get out there and keep cracking on with your sj, practise makes perfect.

I have a new mare who has jumped up to foxhunter....but when we first started competing we had a few eliminations because she kept stopping. So i took a step back and did a few good weeks of training - anything from lessons and quiet training at home, to going out and doing tiny clear round courses to get our confidence and work at what bit/spurs/whip.... etc she went best with, maybe you just need time to work things out? It is certainly working for me.

The pics look quite good - chin up....and good luck!

well i would say i do agree with you 100% but i have been trying ever since i have had her..i knwo we have both improved and i ride her better than i did but any work iv done on the sj doesnt seem to be paying off.

i dont want to sound like im making excuses but there are very few places i can go dj near me that dont have either rubbish going to pokey arenas which really wont help her confidence! i have a lesson on tuesday so shall take the cam and report back!

Where are you based?

Some things come easier than others. I mean, all i do is sj, so our training is pretty intense. Maybe have some lessons with a specalist coach (if you dont already), perhaps someone bsja accredited or the like....

I am a firm believer that things come in time....how long have you had your horse? If its a while maybe its time to change something, like your trainer for instance??

Im just brainstorming with you.....

yep i much appreciate
smile.gif
erm well i have changed sj wise trainer....i now have someone who comes up here every 2 weeks and it will be my 3rd lesson with him tuersday. im in east anglia....and have no facilities and dont want to travel for hours for lessons as i know i would need them regularly.

i have had her for 2 and a hlaf years...first year gradually gettin used to her doing 2ft6-2ft9-3ft ish and the 2 seasons has become a bit more focussed.

kick-on.....well i realised i didnt have enough control in my sj (had a hanging cheek french link) and the gag was recommended when i hired out an arena witha course to test brakes with my instructoir i had been having for a long time...but im thinking she doesnt like the pole pressure?

I'm with weezy - your SJ photos looked OK to me, but suppose still photos can hide a multitude of problems between the actual fences. Sorry that your gag didn't work, have you another bit that you would like to try (our grey mare hunts in a waterford which seems to give extra brakes without a fight).
I bet you were pleased with the dressage though, I would be over the moon to get that score.
Fiona

Dont forget then that the 'goal posts' are continually changing.... with you getting more 'focused'.

If your happy with your trainer then keep at it, but it sounds as if the gag was perhaps a little too much?? She certainly doesn't sound happy in it.

I live in Northants which is sorta East, we have alot of places with good going and lots of space. Ive been to alot of training shows the last few weeks to practise our jumping.... maybe when the pm is back up and running you could pm me....

fiona- im not sure bit wise...i only really have a few that are mostly snaffly lol....shall seek advice on tuesday ad report back ithink
smile.gif
thanks for help everyone and keep any advice and thoughts coming..im off to bed so shall read them 2moro!

awww dont worry bout it Fran, well done for the dressage though
laugh.gif
and the pics look nice
smile.gif

was it a cheltham gag or 3 ringed?? as i found that mine is a git with a 3 ring one and was much better with CG and i could pulled head in on to chest..
Have you played with lots of bits??? if gag doesn't work what about pelham or waterford???
but you right prastice makes prefect

yes i am hoping to try pelhams/waterfords...unfortunatly i dont have very many so it may be trying to borrow them from freinds etc....shall look into it.

shes not seriously strong she just doesnt seem to want to listen in between fencea....i think thats why in the warm up she was fine as i didnt have to take a pull coming in...and also the first fence in the arena...it was in between the 1st and second when i checked her as she was too quick and she stuck her head far up in the air to evade the bit........i think she hates the poll action tbh...

i think it is a case of finding something that works as i dont want to be pulling her back teeth out...hopefully i will find something...im feeling slightly more optimistic that maybeimproving the bitting will help
smile.gif

thanks thistle-although i think the postage would be quite high and i saw quite a cheap one when i was in the tack shop the other day-thanks very much for the offer though it is much appreciated.

finnMcCoul-another thing to think about thankyou
smile.gif
i shall see what my instructor says tonight about bitting as i think the raising the head was purely to evade the poll action of the gag as she never did it before!
